67 Rebuild

Post by hotrod ford »

Well, being that I have the 67 tore down to just the cab on the frame, I will go ahead and rebuild it it back up. The two or three things that I can find bad are the passenger floor board and the speaker holes that are cut beside the back window. I will do practice welding on scrap metal before a atempt anything on the cab. When I feel ready I will then do the cab. I see no reason not to try and fix this truck up if I can. I will not be using the inline though. There will be V8 in it's future. So nothing is going to be wasted anymore as of parts. Everything will be used. Wish me luck.

Good luck. I am in the same situation. I hope to learn enough about welding to do my floors and cab mounts. Keep us updated.

When welding body panels you need to take you're time, you don't want to get it very hot or it will warp and do other strange things. the best thing to do is to tack it, let it cool a few seconds, tack it again, then move to a different spot and do the same thing. just try not to get any one spot hot a at a time, move around a little. another thing you can do is dab it with a wet rag as soon as you tack it, that will keep large areas form getting heated and warping. as for cab mounts, you can get those hotter as long as you don't burn through. the best thing to do is drill holes spaced about 3/4"-1" along the area being welded and spot weld them on by filling the hole with weld, just make sure to get good adhesion to both pieces being welded.

what happened to me was the welder wasnt hot enough i guess and i wasnt getting enough pentration. so i turned it up a slight and it started burning holes in it. the welder i was using was just too big i think.

i've got the truck completely stripped down the just a bare cab and frame. I need to clean the heck out of it. It has so much drt on the sides of the cab and what ever else is in there with it. There is alot of dirt and grease on the frame and cross memers that needs to be cleaned.

So what color? white?

What V8 are you going to go with?

Looks like you are done with the second best part. I love taking a project apart and thinking about all the stuff I want to do while I'm taking it apart. Then comes the hard part! Actually doing all the stuff you wanted to do. Then the best part is putting it back together.

If you decide to paint it a rustoleum color, bring it over and I will spray it for you. HA!

white, how did you ever guess?

i'm picking up a 460 this weekend and it's not a 72.

i think i'm done with the first best part. the second would have to be putting it all back together the way i want. the third will be driving it and showing it off.

Why are you sad that the 460 isn't a 72? The 72 (D2) heads were the worst 460 heads ever. Pretty much any year head is better.

Wow, I didn't see the "not" at all. Yes, I see now. You are glad it isn't a 72. Well what year is it?
