I bought my bump two months ago and I guess its time to start restoring it. Here are some pics:
As you can see the PO has already sprayed the body with primer. Looks like it was done well except for the bed looks pretty bad. the filled the bump with some sort of bondo, I think!? the primer is chipping off of it and I tore a little piece out and it feels like some sort of silicone. Has anyone ever seen this before?
I think that I wll paint it myself, I haven't ever done it before but I bought some door panels off ebay and practiced yesterday on one of them(its extra). I used just a single stage paint and I feel like it turned out really good. I'm pretty motivated to knock out the whole thing.
I won't leave it white but to practice I bought a small can of "miss tint" that the shop had.
this is the worst of the rust spots. There are a couple others like on the coners of the cab in the rear but not nearly as severe.
Here is the interior

That might be the original seam filler used by the factory.

It is most likely seam sealer, whoever did it did a sloppy job though. Please do NOT use bondo, it will eventualy crack and fall out. most auto parts stores carry seam sealer in tubes for a calk gun or there is self leveling (which I have never used ) seamsealer that comes in its own gun. The seam sealer will stay supple and should not ever crack or fall out if applied on a clean surface. By the way, you have an awsome truck !

Obviously I'm not very experienced in body work, so I will take you advice to heart .madbiker4 wrote:Please do NOT use bondo
thanks for the tip and the compliment on the truck. For the most part the PO did a pretty good job. He put on the 33" tires along with the rims and new suspension. He also installed new dual exhaust pipes. Since I got it all I had to do was tune it up. Replaced plugs and the exhaust was leaking like mad and had to adjust the timing, but now its running really well. I really want to get it painted before winter comes and then get the interior looking better and I will be one happy camper!
I couldn't do any of it with out this website (or at least I couldn't do it well/right). Love this forum!!!

The PO also put on the '67 grill, which I personally like the looks of better than the '72 grill

sweet ride! the 67 grille is one of the better one's. any steel grille (67/8/9) is good though. love the truck.

'72 F100 4X4 SWB SMALL UPDATE
I've been working on re-doing my headliner. I went to lowes and bought some 1/4" plywood that I cut the new one out of. Fortuneatly my old one was in good enough condition that I was able to re-trace it onto the plywood and cut it out.
(My for some reason really wanted to be in the picture )
I'm now soaking the ends in water while c-clamped to a mold that I made to make the wood bend in the coners like the stock one did.
After taking the old one out, I discovered some light rust forming . I sanded it out and repainted with a can of black rustoleoum. Now I'm putting in some sound deadner. Once I get the plywood shaped how I want it I will get it covered with vinyl and put it back together.
my budget for my truck is a little thin so I'm going to tackle some small projects for now.

I was checking out the "links" page and was looking at the SMS interiors website. They look like they have some cool materials to choose from. otherwise I was just going to do like a plain black vinyl.

Well I finished the head liner and I really like the way it turned out. I ended up just buying some black vinyl from a local fabric store and used a spray adhesive to apply it to the wood.
My pictures didn't turn out that great for some reason, but it gives you the basic idea.

that came out pretty good. hey, check out 3M's website. they have some real good seam sealers. just used one to seal the floor pans i out in and it layed out and set up real good. this is the kind of stuff the body shops use.

3M 08361. interior/exterior seam sealer. they may make a better product for the bed seams (i don't know). go to 3M's website. they have all their stuff with good explanations for it all.
