from what i have heard you have to put the seal around the glass the insert the the trim into the slot. then you very carefully install the glass in to the window area. im not sure but i think you may need to put down some of the auto window silcone

Its rather easy to put in, get the windshield in the rubber first. Put the chrome on, which might be rough. If its a new rubber you will need some wd40 probably. Get a rope and install it in the rubber, make sure that both ends of the rope come out on a side. Get someone to help you. Put the bottom in first, have someone push on the windshield, and start to rope it in. Sometimes when it's not all the way in, you have to do a slapping motion on it. It really shouldn't take that long. If it's a new rubber, then you will need a hook tool and some wd40. Spray the wd40 on the outside. And hook a piece in and start to rope it in.

No, don't put down silicone, you can use urethane if it leaks slightly from the top. But you have to put it after you installed the windshield. Our windshields are what I call rope in, no sealant needed, you just roped em in.

How can it not be a new rubber? If you can save an old windshield weatherstripping and re-use it... you've got some ninja removal skills...

 All depends on your "perspective" of old  a couple of years old would still be flexible enough to remove and reuse...

urethane is soem sticky and hard stuff to get back off. these trucks usually had leaks at the top drivers side roff pillar seem to roof. a flowable silicone later will seal up any leaks. urethane is what they use now days to seal a windshield into cars and trucks without windshield gaskets. it is made so the windshield wont pop out in a wreak.

rattlecan,

This is also one of the things in my build that I have to do. I've got a one year old piece of glass from my 79' and a new "trimless" gasket.
I'm really not looking forward to this... :hw:
I stopped some guy up the road here last week (pro's) that were replacing a neighbor's windshield. They said "no problem / we'll come by tomorrow and get it done for you" they never showed...

I coulda' swore that Keith had a tutorial on this, (I do remember reading of his install a few years back and felt it was an excellent description on "how to" do the install). But i can't seem to find the tutorial or the thread now. :hmm:

I'm still not looking forward to this either...

Yes, too old and they are frail and break easily. New ones that have never been installed are tight, and sometimes hard to get in. Lol man, Ive saved many old windshield weatherstrippings. Now if it's never been replaced on these trucks, more than likely it will mess up coming out. But in reality if the rubber has been replaced in the last 25 years it should come out with no problem and be reused. Never cut the rubber to get the windshield out, sit on the seat and push the windshield out with your feet. "Not kick"!, Push. If you got a fresh paint job then put a furniture blanket over your hood.

Well the way we have always done it, the windshield 98% will leak from the top. So you stick the urethane tip under the rubber and drag a bead across under it. In my expirience, regular silicone usually doesn't last more than maybe 3-4 years.

with the urethane you wont be able to push the windshield out any more and save that gasket. urethane will glue the gasket to the truck. it will come off but it has to be cut off of the metal. it is a liquid rubber kind of. use what you will. but consider the problems your mods may create.
