1969 F250 Camper Special Ranger
Been doing some more work on the truck lately and figured I'd start a new thread to consolidate the things I've done to it. Today I installed my trailer brake, I was able to keep my vacuum gauge after all. Got everything hooked up to the brake, just need to run the trailer wire to the rear of the truck and install a new plug.
Also hooked up my electric choke, only took me 4 years to get to this I don't procrastinate, I never get around to it.
And finally knocked my timing back to 8 degrees.
Here are links to the 'Project Updates' on this truck over the years to complete the consolidation:
360 to 390 Swap
"New" Front Bumper On
C6 to NP upgrade

Re: 1969 F250 Camper Special Ranger
I had been meaning to run a new power supply to the air conditioning, the wire under the dash where it was hooked up would get hot during use. So I installed a new breaker under the hood and ran a 12 gauge wire into the truck to supply both the A/C & the trailer brake:
Here's the trailer brake, I'll clean up that wire once I run the new trailer wire:

On my long list of 'one of these days' projects is new valve seals. These are pretty wasted, I can drive around okay although I have to add oil occasionally, but it loads up pretty quick when idling. Would be higher on the list if the truck was a daily driver, but with as few miles as I put on it there isn't any rush.

From May of 2015:
And wouldn't you know it; the doggone H*lley is flooding out again. Get to pull it out and apart again.
Got a replacement booster ready to install.
Have a pretty major service to due before I put her on the road again; we had a minor flood on the area of property where it was parked, water got up to the hubs. So I'll pull all the wheels off and check the brakes and pack the bearings. Then inspect and grease everything.
Sad it came to this, I had this truck dialed in so well; now it's like starting over again...
I have the truck tagged and insured for the first time in nearly 7 years!ToughOldFord wrote:I put new fuel rail seals in the carb and gave it a good cleaning while I had it apart. Got it all back together and she's running good again. Smoking some out of the left bank though, my valve seals are bad in this engine, it loads up pretty easily, but it looks like it's time to change them now.
I had forgotten that the brake booster had failed right before parking the truck, it has a pretty bad vacuum leak.
Still recovering from the Paying my Dues season, but in a month or two I'm going to take a look at the budget and see if it's in the cards to tag and insure this truck, it'd be nice to drive the old girl again.

Thanks! Should be fine, one of the few pluses of living in Commiefornia; nothing rusts out here. Water most likely just washed away all the grease and oil from where it belongs so a good service should be all that's required as long as none of the water resided in the break drums.

Re: 1969 F250 Camper Special Ranger
Okay, got started on it today. It's dried out enough to get it out from my "back 40" and up to the house where I can work on it. And it's supposed to storm/snow on Monday so I figured I'd better get to it while the getting's good.
So, got it out under its own power and began on it. Cleaned all the leaves and twigs from the cowling, drip rails, & engine bay. Blew all loose debris from the engine bay. Lubed hood hinges and latch so it moves like it should now. My fan belts are rotten, rotten, rotten and while getting the numbers off them to order some new ones find out the water pump I put on some years ago is loosing its bearings. So ordered a new water pump and all belts and a few other things I've been needing from RockAuto.
So, nothing too exciting yet, but at least I've started on it.
Here she is fresh out of the mothballs before I cleaned the debris off of her:

Re: 1969 F250 Camper Special Ranger
Some progress to report. Got the new water pump installed, replaced the V-belts, warmed it up to check my work, all looks good.
Probably going to have to throw a kit in the carb. Definitely do the valve seals real soon; I have them purchased and just picked up the in-engine valve compressor tool. It'll be my first time with one of those; always pulled the heads in the past on whatever I was working on. But if I can get away with leaving FE heads in place it'll be a good thing. I won't be in a hurry though, 16 valves with that little tool with a twist knob doesn't look like a fun time.

Re: 1969 F250 Camper Special Ranger
More progress:
Went to replace the booster; pulled the master and what do you know, it's leaking from the rear seal into the booster. So time for a new master as well. :-/
Figured it was a good time to do the valve seals on the left head while the master and booster were out. That tool is a pain in the butt, it likes to slip off a lot, but it did the job. All 8 seals on the left side are done.
Old seals on right, new on left:
Today I installed the new booster and master cylinder. I suppose I'll do the seals on the right side next since I'm half done with the seal job.
Getting it done between the rain falls.
