A word of advice. Don't calculate how much you spend on gas

Post by 1971ford »

I was bored and on wellsfargo checking my history... when i had a GREAT idea. Why not see how much gas money i have spent in the past 3 months?

Any guesses???

.

Answer:

$475 in 3 months. That's depressing. Why did i check that. I only drive to 5 miles to school, 5 miles back, 5 miles to work, 5 miles back. I don't work every day either.
Just insure me that my highboy will get a mpg two or beter lol . It has a 390, ('71 has a 429) and has a 4 speed. I'm hoping for maybe $400 every 3 months?
Oh well, It's worth it... or else I'd be into ricers and not trucks. Driving my bump around is the funnest thing ever, just costs $$

Yeah... I quit checking my mpg, and my weekly/monthly/yearly fuel costs a long time ago.

Just drive your trucks and have fun... to me the fuel cost vs. the pure awesomeness of driving a bump ratio is well worth it.

yea. i havent drove anything but my 93 and 94 since 2000. and gas prices have went up since then. i was kind o fshocked when i put gas in my 4wd fo rthe first time and it ate it all within the few miles my other trucks wouldn't have eaten 1/2 a tank or less.

That's why you need a third bump with a fuel injected 300 or 302 in it.... :D

Gas (gasoline) is just a fact of life. I quit considering the cost of how it affects the price of things. If I drive across town and use $10 worth of gas shopping for a $2 part then the part just costs $2. If you drive you burn gas, plain and simple.

I drive my '08 Focus to and from work for about $55 a month. Haven't driven my '72 short bed in about a year but I did drive some '72 parts over to the sandblaster today in my '63 Unibody (mashed on the 390, too).

Id rather have something that is fun to drive and uses a bit of gas then be stuck in some econobox.

Heck my Ranger only gets 18 mpg on a good day. Usually like 15.

I'm thinking more like ohhhhh say a diesel swap

I am thinking hard about swapping a diesel in the highboy in the future. I'd love to have 25 mpg's in my bump :D
How would a FI 300 or 302 do for towing? I have never touched one of those engines before :) How many MPG's would you guess they would get?
I'm still waiting for you to try out the crew's new engine, if it has the towing power and the mpg's then I'd rather drop an I6 in like you. HMmmmm

Also ponder this but everywhere that is 5-10 miles away all add up, especialy if you consider that round trip is 10-20 miles. ad the worst for these older trucks is the idling waiting to hit the road at a stop.

What's the gas price now in the USA? Around USD3.00/gallon?

Here in the Netherlands we pay USD 7,70 per gallon.
That's why I converted the truck, which is to be my daily driver, to LPG, which costs a little over USD3.00 /gallon.
My van uses diesel @ USD5.65/gallon.

Its a shame but nowadays you have to figure gas as part of the budget, good ol days of a dollor a gallon are gone and never coming back. I had to buy a focus to try and cut some cost and im saveing around $200 or more a month now. i still enjoy driving the gas hogs everytime i get a chance. Four years ago i owned/drove a 500hp dumptruck and would spend $200 everyday on fuel, in one year i had spent $44,000 on just fuel. The truck is parked in the yard now.

I calculate mine every time I fill up. I have an account on fuelly.com (check it out, it's neat). So far I've spent about $600 on gasoline so far this year, and not a drop of it went into the Bump! Once I finish the carb/manifold install I'll start driving it again. But like FLATBEDFORD, I haven't filled up my Bump since the end of 2009.
