poison ivy...

well it seems like whenever i do anything i enjoy doing (hunting camping fishing) i get a huge out break of poison ivy weather or not i touch it....oh well i guess i am just venting because i am bored is any one else highly allergic to this stuff?!?!?! and if so is there anything you do (besides staying away) to prevent it ..i could use some tips on how to keep it away

get more of it and eventually you wont be allergic anymore. Thats what my dad did, i probably would to but I never see enough of it.

well i get it atleast three times a year...and its been like that ever since i was like 7...i am fifteen now and one year i was coverd head to toe in it..

The best thing you can do if you know you have been exposed to it is take a shower as soon as possible. The key is to scrub down. Just letting the water flow over you doesn't work. The oil from the plant is what makes you breakout. It is the oil that you get on your skin, and then move to other parts of your body through scratching. Use a grease or oil cutting soap and make sure you use a brush under your fingernails.
Contrary to popular belief, the sores that you get will not spread the poison ivy, only the oil. So get the oil off first and then treat the breakouts topically with something to dry it out. Ivy gone and benedryl make good products. Can't go wrong with the pink stuff either. Also try something with a hystimine blocker.

I'm sure peoples reactions to it vary. I'm on the other end of the scale.
I think I must be immune to the effects of it. Surely I must have got into
it before, being as I'm out in the woods a lot. Camp a lot, etc..
But I've never had the effects of poison ivy. Ever, that I can remember.
And I remember cases where other people I was with in the same areas
got into it, but I never seemed to. I can't remember a single time having
poison ivy symptoms.

Poison ivy is bad, but you better watch out for poison sumac. I had to go to the emergency room over that stuff. I was swelled up from head to toe.

I must be like you, It just dont bother me. sometime people will yell "Watch out theres poison ivy" and i just smile and ask if they want some and grab it I wash and scrub my hands good after touching it to not pass it on. My mom can look at it and get, My dad is immune to it. From what ive seen it dose to people im glad i dont catch it. Im always in the woods somewhere and i would be ate up from head to toe if i wasnt immune

Atlas is spot on. Children rarely get it the first time they come into contact with it. Be careful if you are "immune", it often doesn't last forever.

well of course so it's pretty warm out i've been inside on the web alot (to prevent sweating and spreading) and i learned some things 1) ac blowin on it takes the itch away and feels pretty good 2) you dont have to come into contact with it to get it 30 the fda says that spray deoderant will help prevent it. 4) ivarest (kinda like the pink stuff helps 5) bleach helps alot as it eats away the skin...no skin no rash

Poison Oak and Ivy don't bother me. Poison Sumac on the other hand makes me itch and swell the infected area up on me. One year I had to get a shot to clear it up after in got in my eyes.
