And what better way is there to spend post deployment time than going to look at a craigslist ad sayin', "Built this to go hunting and have fun the redneck way."
Newly installed old school towing mirrors worked like a champ too. Don't like the look of the new square style.
Basically the guy chopped and welded an 86 Grand Wagoneer to a 76 J10 pickup. Little upset that he said the tires were good, and when I get there they were all flat, but since I brought the trailer just incase, not too a big deal. Actually got him down to 300 because it wouldn't run except on starting fluid.
Aired up the tires to see how well they can hold, and got the carb off now to do a rebuild this weekend. Interestingly it's a Ford Motorcraft two barrel for whatever reason, so I don't expect anything tricky.
Only thing extra I need now I think is a sticker sayin', "It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand..."
Good to hear from you Its been a while.
That is a really fun looking J-truck set up. The Motorcraft is no surprise. AMC/JEEP used them all the time on Full size Waggys and J-trucks.
That sticker your talking about is usually reserved for the "Barbie jeeps". I have seen many variations of it. Some not so nice
J-trucks are not very common around here. They didn't sell well, and most of them rotted away real fast.
You should have a Dana 44 front, Dana 44 rear in that. Which drop i'm not sure because they changed the drop in the '80 model year. So depending on which drivetrain he used it will either be driver drop, or passenger drop.
Quadratrac t-case i assume, do you have low/high range? Some Quad cases didn't. Probably a 360 v-8. Could have either the TH400, or the 727 torque for a trans.
I have a buddy up in U.P. who is nuts about these truck He would be very envious of you.
Have fun with it.

Two-bit, thanks! I'ma floating in new areas with this rig.
It's an 8, was figurin' on a 304 or whatever, maybe a 360, but it for sure doesn't look like a FE ford 360. The dizzy is on a diagonal up front. Also looks like 44's front and rear with a 4x4 control on the dash and a H-N-L selector on the floor. Drivers side drop.
"that is a pretty cool rig, seen a few build threads on those before but never seen one completed. that is a hell of a deal for 300 bones as long as it is done decently and not gonna fall apart real soon or need to be rebuilt to stay together.
if he has driver drop he should have the tf 727 trans (if its an auto sounds like it is) with one of the np cases behind it (i think either np 208, 241, or 242 but not sure there could be more that were used). yep def an amc v8 either 304, 360, or 401. i think there is a casting/stamping on the block near the firewall under the exhaust manifolds or something like that (been a while since i read up on this too though).
yes 44 front and rear."
Hope this helps you out while you explore your new toy

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

The grand would've had an amc 20 and a np242 - but that's a center drop. So if it's a driver's side drop you've got the transfer case from the J-truck and most likely the d44 from there as well.
The amc 360 is a strong motor, but unfortunately parts are expensive. AMC used lots of borrowed parts, and you'll find more Ford junk than just the carb as you dig into it.
I'll second the suggestion for IFSJA - that's a good group over there. Just don't get into politics. And do some searching for suppliers, there's not many reproduced parts, but there are lots of good fabricators making one off parts for them.

It's for my twin boys, sure they're only 3 right now, but it's all for them! Well, and my twin girls. They're not even 1 yet, but when they are I'll have a pit crew!
Yours is a little longer (looks great, btw), but here's an idea what these full size jeeps can do:

IFSJA is a great group. I loved it there, and I still frop in from time to time, along with the datsun group I was a member of (still am), but since the city got both my jeep and my datsun, I don't post often. Definatly head o\ver there. There a fantastic set of folks.
