Car term question.

Post by hdpusher »

I have heard the term "short" refered to when people decribe certian cars. My question is what defines a car as a "short" or what is a "short"?
I know the Beach Boys refer to it in their song "Tach It Up". They decribe both the 413 (Dart?) and the Sting Ray as shorts. If anyone knows why Id sure like to know.
May Be we could even start a car term thread???

it means two cool beach kids ..and if your at the beach your wearing shorts
the song goes ,,,Two "shorts" "standing" side by side I never hear any of the cars call shorts. my dads not around so I can't ask him,but I take it like this beach boys means the beach and their referring to another beach dude hot rodder

I love that song "shut down"

A short is when sometimes your lights work and sometimes they blow a fuse.

fbomb100 That sounds perfectly believable from a Beach Boys point of view Shorts= beach dude/hot rodders. I’ve heard a few people call their cars shorts before. Ive kinda thought it ment drag car meaning short runs but it prob not the case. Next time i hear a car called that I'm gona ask them why. Thanks for the clarification. Oh yea and it is "Shut Down"

Must be a western PA thing. Kinda like 'Pop' instead of 'soda' Ive heard them advertise short car leases where they are just referring to the length of the term of the lease, not to be mistaken with a lease for a short car.

Tach it up, tach it up
Buddy gonna shut you down

It happened on the strip where the road is wide
(Rev it up, now)
Two cool shorts standin' side by side
(Rev it up, now)
Yeah, my fuel injected Stingray and a four-thirteen
(Rev it up, now)
Were revvin' up our engines and it sounds real mean
(Rev it up, now)

Tach it up, tach it up
Buddy gonna shut you down

Declinin' numbers at an even rate
(Movin' out, now)
At the count of one we both accelerate
(Movin' out, now)
My Stingray is light the slicks are startin' to spin
(Movin' out, now)
But the four-thirteen's really diggin' in
(Movin' out, now)

Gotta be cool now power shift here we go

Superstock Dodge is winding out in low
But my fuel injected Stingray's really startin' to go
To get the traction I'm ridin' the clutch
My pressure plate's burnin' my machine's too much

Pedal's to the floor hear his dual quads drink
(Honk it on, now)
And now the four-thirteen's lead is startin' to shrink
(Honk it on, now)
He's hot with ram induction but it's understood
(Honk it on, now)
I got a fuel injected engine sittin' under my hood
(Honk it on, now)

Shut it off, shut it off buddy now I shut you down
Shut it off, shut it off buddy now I shut you down
Shut it off, shut it off buddy now I shut you down
Shut it off, shut it off buddy now I shut you down

Little deuce Coupe
You don't know what I got
Little deuce Coupe
You don't know what I got

Well I'm not braggin' babe so don't put me down
But I've got the fastest set of wheels in town
When something comes up to me he don't even try
Cause if (it) had a set of wings man I know she could fly
She's my little deuce coupe
You don't know what I got
Little deuce coupe
You don't know what I got

Just a little deuce coupe with a flat head mill
But she'll walk a Thunderbird like she's standin' still
She's ported and relieved and she's strokin' four
She'll do a hundred and forty in the top end floored
She's my little deuce coupe
You don't know what I got
Little deuce coupe
You don't know what I got

She's got a competition clutch with the four on the floor
And she purrs like a kitten till the late pipes roar
And if that ain't enough to make you flip your lid
There's one more thing I got the pink slip daddy

And comin' off the line when the light turns green
Well she blows 'em outta the water like you never seen
I get pushed out of shape and it's hard to steer
When I get rubber in all four gears

She's my little deuce coupe
You don't know what I got
Little deuce coupe
You don't know what I got
She's my little deuce coupe
You don't know what I got
Little deuce coupe
You don't know what I got
She's my little deuce coupe
You don't know what I got
