1972 Ford step side questions

Post by razorbacker1994 »

I just got my first truck> it is a 1972 Ford step side. Comepletely original. Still has original paint, wood in bed, and everything. Runs perfectly. Entire cab was just redone. New dash pad, seeat, fuel tank, and more. What is a rough estimate of what this is worth?

Pictures are must when asking this question. It is an interesting question that most bump owners would like answered. I suggest that you go to Craiglook and do a search for trucks that are similar and see what the asking prices are. They range from $24k to less than $1k.

You can also go to Ebay and do a search of completed auctions to get an idea of what people are actually paying for similar trucks.

Definitely give us a few good pics and we can give a ballpark estimate FWIW.

If the pics are already online on a photo-hosting site, you can follow the directions here:

http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 78#p198178

If not, then you can just attach them to a post by clicking the 'Upload attachment' tab' immediately under the reply box when you go to make a post. Just click the Browse button and then find the pics on your computer, select them, add a comment if you want, and then hit the 'Add the file' button.

NOTE: To attach pics, they can't be any larger than 800 pixels wide, so if yours are larger, you'll have to resize them down to fit.

Congratulations on your new truck. What your truck is worth may be somewhat regionally based. In the pacific NW it may be worth less as there are a much higher percentage of these trucks still on the road (so I've heard). If you'r in the rust belt, you might find your truck is valued a little higher. Strictly my opinion, but your truck is not worth what NADA classic vehicle book value states it is, unless it's got less than 50,000 miles is all original and is stored in a climate controlled building. As others have said, post some pics so we can

What is it worth? That is in the eye of the beholder. I paid $2200. for my 68. Worth it to me, maybe not to another. Enjoy your Ford.

razorbacker1994,
Congrats on your truck ! I have one Exactly like yours ! I am located in deep east Texas, and I paid $1500.00 for mine. She ran (240 inline six) , but needed a clutch and new brakes. The bed wood is in bad shape, but she is my baby and is being brought back one updated new piece at a time !

What would you guys suggest I do to it first? It runs perfectly so won't be anything with the engine. Any suggestions?

Drive it!

That's the only way that you're going to find it's little quirks and troubles. Then you'll know what it needs if anything.

What engine is in it?
What did YOU pay for it? Since stepsides are sought after generally, it could be worth 3 to 4K.

Nice. They hold their value, you certainly wouldnt lose much if you had to re sell it. A 390 would be nice in a truck like that, but would not be economical.
Whats the gearing in the differential?
