Has your motor been recently rebuilt, or does it have a lot of mileage on it? I'm no expert but not sure I would run the 15W-40 on an old engine. 15W-40 is a high detergent oil IIRC formulated to keep diesel engine clean and free of sludge and gunk. If you've got a high mileage engine with sludge buildup, the high detergent oils will start breaking the sludge and gunk loose and you could potentially end up with some problems.

If your motor is pretty fresh and clean, then 15W-40 would be fine to run. Just my :2cents:

I could easily be wrong, but I don't believe that 15w-40 will have extra detergents just because it's 40 weight. Now, if you go with something formulated for diesels, like Rotella 15w-40, then I think you are absolutely correct. Maybe someone will chime in that knows for sure.
