heaviest thing hauled with your bump
I was looking at the post pics of your truck working and got an idea for this thread. What is the heaviest thing that you have hauled with your bump. For me it would probaly be a sbc and trans. I have also hauled several 351w's and stuff like that.
1971 F-100 swb 401 fe , edelbrock intake, cam, valve covers, longtube headers with twin 2.5 inch exhaust, aluminum wheels.

Re: heaviest thing hauled with your bump
Good morning Jarred!
The heaviest load I've carried in #50 was around 3,000 pounds of gravel; I did that three or four times. Its worn out 360 had plenty of power to move the truck up some long, steep mountain roads, and it handled and braked comfortably. It sure smoothed the ride out--it was fun to drive that way!
#50's an 8,100lb GVW F250 so it was probably loaded to near its limit during those trips.

Re: heaviest thing hauled with your bump
6 or 7 years ago I hauled 2 pallets of dog food @ #3,300 each, the local Wal-mart donated the food to a shelter that we help support.
So that was #6,600 they told me that if I wanted both pallets I must take them both at that time.
I hauled them both about 20 miles I hope to NEVER haul that much at one time again the Beast was sitting only about 1" off the rubber stops.
It is nice to know that now and then you can ask them to go "above and beyond" .....I love my truck

My 460 is the heaviest thing that I haul in my short bed. Sometimes I haul it sideways.

2000# of crushed rock, the truck could have hauled more (1/2 ton with factory overload) but I had regular 2ply tires and they were maxed out.

Biggest load for me was a bed full of tree limbs but in its former life it was a body mounted camper.

Re: heaviest thing hauled with your bump
2 yards of topsoil about 4500lbs.

nearly 2 cords of very green Maple, about 5000 lbs

I've had an IH 6.9 diesel, a dana 70, a Sterling 10.25 and various other truck pieces for around 5000 lbs of scrap.
I consider 5000 lbs to be the most weight it can comfortably run at highway speeds. If I ever get around to having the rear springs re-arched and get some radial tires I think It would be ok with much more. There has never been a lack of power, just need two or three feet on the brake pedal.

I used to have a 72 F250 that i hauled fire wood with. Selling it by the cord the truck felt good loaded.

Re: heaviest thing hauled with your bump
My grandad used to haul a old propane tank with mine. It had been converted to a water tank to get water to his cows. I dunno what it weighed empty but it was about 8'x3.5'. It was a heck of a load on a poor little half ton when it was full.

Re: heaviest thing hauled with your bump
Not my highboy, but years ago when I was core drilling I used to drive a 69 highboy that we had a 500 gallon water tank loaded in the bed. We drilled mainly remote sites that the bigger companies wouldn't bid on. It handled the load around great when it was full. I hated to drive it when the tank was only 1/2 full. The tank didn't have any baffles in it.
