Ran the 72 at the track

Post by dustman_stx »

Ran an 8.56 at 82.xx mph. Too bad that out of a couple hundred cars at the track, only about 4 of them were remotely stock muscle cars. Just about everything that was there that wasn't a dedicated drag car was still pretty hopped up, most with nitrous. So, needless to say, I was one of a very few that wasn't running 7's or better, most way better. There was a new camaro that ran low 9's(I think) and a couple of newer mustangs running high 8's and low 9's, but I never lined up against them. Also a guy I knew had his turbo'ed Neon there running high 8's. I had 3 runs, all against cars running low 7's, so I saw lots of taillights. Did see a bump there called "Godzilla" that was an all out drag truck. Looked really cool. Had a stroked 460, if I remember correctly. Didn't get to see him, or much anything else run, as I was in line waiting to run most of the night. It was a major adrenaline rush, though. First run I was pretty sure I was going into cardiac arrest.

That would be a heck of a weird 1/4 mile run. :hmm: All kidding aside, yes, it was 1/8 mile.

Sounds like a lot of fun!

Do you mind giving the specs on your setup?

390, .030 over, forged rods and pistons, 10:1, C8AE-H heads with 2.09/1.65 valves, comp 288R roller cam, Performer RPM, Demon 750, Mallory Unilite with MSD Digital 6, Hedman headers, full 3" exhaust. If I had it to do over, I'd have gone with a 445 stroker kit from Barry R at Survival Motorsports and Edelbrock heads. Probably would have gottten another 100+ horsepower for only $2000 or so. Live and learn.

Your setup is very similar to mine, but I have the Edelbrock heads, Demon 650 and a flat tappet cam (soon to be swapped). I feel the same way about the stroker kit.

What trans and rear gear are you running?

Also, where do you live? Is Dodd City, TX...just east of Bonham?

Running the C-6 and 4.11 gears. Yep, just east of Bonham. I notice you aren't far from me.

Yup, not too far. Perhaps we can get together one day and play trucks. LoL. I'd like to check out that 72.

I just got my C-6 back together last night. Hopefully I'll have it back in the truck by the end of the weekend.
