Stolen body panel rant

Post by flyboy71 »

I cut up my not so great bed and piled the two halfway decent bedsides on top of the floor, in a far corner of my yard until I decided to use them on my project. You could barely see them for the weeds around them and if you didnt know it you would never have guessed what they were. I walked out tonite to size them up for a patch panel to fix the rear corner of my good bed and they were gone. GONE!!! Did you hear me? GONE!! Who in the deal would have taken two bedsides? They didnt steal my extension ladder 20 ft away in full view or my fishing boat. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo they decided to steal the one thing I might have decided to use. It had to be someone who has been eyeing them up because driving by you wouldnt have said "hey hey theres a nice pair of bumpside bed panels for my pick-em-up truck! Billy-Bob stop the truck!! Im gonna snag them thar beauties" I called the police and filed a report just in case anything else happens but still..... bedsides? Cmon! Now I need to hunt down a rear drivers side corner and there goes my roll pan idea. I've been violated! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr :x

Im sure that what it was cause I cant figure any other reason. They were maybe 50 ft from the road but buried in weeds and partly hidden behind a bush. A casual driver wouldnt have spotted them unless they were eyeing them up for a while. Im on guard now though in case anything else goes missing.

its people like thjat. that make it harder on anyone else who is collecting scrap from the curb side. you have to use sense when picking up metal. i wont get off the street and go into the grass to pickup anything. if it isnt in arms reach from the curb it stays there.

Well Im not gonna lose sleep over it because Ill find someone who wants to chop up a bed and get a rear corner at some point Im sure. If they were gonna take the sides they should have helped me out and at least grabbed the rusted out floor that was laying underneath it. Thats the hardest part to get rid of and the one I dont need.

And around where I live, if you go onto someones property, pokin' around for scrap, or any other reason is a good way to end up with buckshot in your butt...

Doesn't deter some of the criminals out there though. They have taken to cutting the catalytic converters off of cars parked on the street... :hmm:

I suppose its like they say, if it ain't bolted down, its gone...

I feel your pain. I had a set of virgin, no rust, no dent, no bondo 61-63 Unibody doors  stolen out of my driveway (10ft. from my front door) by the local scrap man. The neighbor down the street saw him pulled up in front of my house. I'm going to ruin him the next time that I see him :x

Owner at the scrap yard where I moonlight just caught a couple of these jerks. They were high tech jerks to boot. One was in a stolen rental truck and 2 more were in the parts yard with radios. Big mistake came when they backed up to the gate. They had spotted one camera but not the second one. Also didn't know about the rest of the security system. All 3 are in lockup over roughly $100 worth of metal. I was told they seemed pretty relieved when the law showed up. Prolly had something to do with facing a .45 in a fist as steady as a rock.

Body panels? Seriously?

Thought it was bad enough with all the lawn equipment thieves are making off with around here. Trailers with equipment on them even. :x

Yep, easy quick cash for scrap... Trailers and equipment have serial numbers, bump bed sides don't.
