My dumb a$$ moment of 2010
SO my 8n that I use around the house has developed a problem. The clutch is stuck. Not a big deal just need to split it and clean everything up and should be good to go. Well I go to pull it in the shop and cant get it stopped. I couldn't pull it out of gear and the brakes arn't worth a dang. I didn't think about just shutting it off. Finaly my Snap-On box stopped it. The ball hitch on the front bumper smashed one of the drawers in real nice. After that I went out to the farm to cet the cherry picker and the hood blows open on my 68 going about 60 mph. I didn't get it shut I guess. What a great Sunday I had.

Told ya them 8N's are trouble makers
Usually you drag them around the farm with a truck in gear with the engine off until the clutch lets go. Bumps help...

Dang, bad, bad day. I feel for ya.
My Sunday consited of taking my yourh group, I'm a youth pastor, to a corn maze and cooking out hotdogs and making smores. All went well except that I'm extremely allergic to cultivated corn pollen. My eyes are just about swollen shut today and I've got a headache like I went 12 rounds with Jose Cuervo last night. But oh well, the kids had fun.

An 8N is an old Ford Tractor. They are usually the little gray and red ones you see around.
My father went out to start his 8N not long ago. He checked to make sure it was out of gear. The shift lever WAS, the transmission WASN'T !!!! He always sits on it to start it, except that day. This tractor NEVER starts on the first try, except that day. He got it shut off before it ran over him. He got on it to move it out of gear and thought he had until he hit the starter and heard a CRUNCH. He finally got it to move, but it would really bang and shudder ever so often. He split it apart to find a tooth was broken. Fortunately, he had a spare and got it fixed right up. It was almost a REAL disaster. From now on, he sits on it to start it.

Re: My dumb a$$ moment of 2010
Those are from back when tractors were tough farm machines- strong but difficult to use. Now a woman can drive them
I used a Ford 9N years ago to mow pastures. The brakes didn't work at all, nor did the hydraulics, so the mower stayed on the ground. Also, the PTO was weird. I don't remember exactly, but I think it would only run while the tractor was in gear (moving).
Another thing, mowing 3-4ft tall weeds in sandy soil on a hot Texas August day is not recommended. The tractor overheated and the radiator cap released pressure. The vent in the cap is under the "fin" thing- and pointed at the driver.
Here are some pictures of the old thing:

Did that on a 9N, the clutch pedal linkage got stuck, would not engage the clutch and to top it off the on off key quit so there i went backwards and down the side of the garage. Took out about 10 feet of wall before it stalled

Both my girls learned to drive on our 8N they would go in circles inthe pasture for hours at a time.
An 8n will pull 90% of it's weight with the draw-bar,that is a LOT of tractor in a small package.
somewhere I have a pic of a mod from the '50's where they replaced the L-4 with a flathead V-8 and duel rear wheels

My 8 still has that front mount. It's a pain for sure. Once it works you just leave it alone
