Stephen,

Saw that one too. What do ya think the owner of the GT40 should do to the "Tuner" that did this? Torture him? Kill him? or both?

Don't know what I'd do, but at least I'd leave him speaking in a much higher voice...

Ford GT's were produced in '05 and '06 and were selling for around $175,000 you can get one now for around $115,000. A real GT40 sold at Pebble Beach in 2002 for around $440,000.

If it was my car he would've wished he died in the wreck.
My fault for trusting him with it- his fault for taking advantage of my trust and not treating an expensive customer's car properly.
He would see a nice dark round steel hole in his last breath.

Uhh... The guy who wrecked that car (Bill) had the car at a local cruise night in Santa Clarita last month. He was telling everyone that it was a clients car who lived in Hawaii and he was doing work on it for him. The car was definately sweet and had some amazing aftermarket engine work done on it. I also remember the guy saying that when the "twin turbo's hit the boost" that the car got really crazy and was hard to manage and that they were going to have to adjust the boost to come softer and slower so that the car would maintain a "straight direction" when the throttle was planted on the floor! Guess that didn't happen in the way he wanted it to happen, did it?

But lets just say, as that guy was pulling in and leaving that night, he definately was not driving it like it was a client's car. And based on what I saw first hand, I highly doubt he was "driving slowly" when this accident occurred. This is the first I had heard this story and seen the photos, but there is no mistaking that car as being the same one at the cruise night.

When I found out that the guy driving it was not the owner and was doing work on it, I was shocked. First that someone would actually take a car that expensive out to a cruise night when it isnt his, and then to see him driving it like he owned it (or stole it)... Lets just say, he wasnt babying it or very careful behind the wheel.

That car is hurt bad but does not look like it hit a tree on the side of the road, turned around and hit a tree backwards, breaking the transaxle and pushing the engine through the firewall. As said. Now I say this looking at it on my old shop PS with it's dark screen.
Also, saying the above, the guy that wrecked it needs to replace it. Not fix it, replace it and everything that the owner ever did to the car. If he wouldn't...he would look at the dark round hole with his last breadth. lol
Boost is something else some of us bump owners don't know much about.
My daughter dated a young man that had a 300 ZX with twin turbos. I begged me to take it for a drive and he was with me. It really was his father's car.
I had never driven something like that. I took a right turn near my house on a two lane road, got in a a little to build some boost and grabbed 2nd. I got in it a lot more really enjoying in and that car went all over the place in 3rd. I backed off. Went up to a road that was straight a no body else on it and really got in it. MAN! what a rocket! Blew me away how fast that car was.
My daughter was not allowed to ride in it PERIOD!

Looks like the respective forums have locked the live post down to at least registered users...

Details are scant, but while I have not seen every car policy, I've seen quite a few and I have never seen one that did not exclude coverage to "persons engaged in a car business", It seems like the "shadowman" is trying to bypass this by claiming to be a "friend" and asking about insurance and obtaining written "permission" by being a "permissive user". I just based on what I've read, my opinion is that he has some understanding of how this works (probably more than he is letting on) but has a flawed understanding because exclusions always take away coverage and a "condition" or "when and where coverage applies" cannot give back coverage that is excluded, so even if "shadowman" does qualify as a "permissive user" if he's in the "car business" he is probably not covered.

You'd have to read the exact policy and examine it in the context of the respective state laws (could get sticky as I assume these folks don't live in the same state) but I expect people end up in court over that deal...

only driving from a shop mechanic/shop owner Should be in and out of the work bay, and a test of the repair. Truth be told as a shop owner he is liable for a failed repair if the vehicle owner is driving home. So as the shop owner was driving it in a "test drive", he is responsable for it. and i gaurantee That california requires such bussiness's to Carry enough insurance to cover such losses for clients. and if he doesn't have the insurrance due to non payment/cancelation of insurances then a loss of bussiness license will happen.
