Goldie Update

My truck must be in shock...I think this is the first time in its 42-year history it has somewhere to live inside. I keep expecting it to be like one of those old ships they salvage--perfectly preserved on the sea floor, but they turn to mush within an hour of being exposed to air.

Now that I have somewhere to work on her, I HAVE to get the exhaust manifolds replaced. The driver's side is still cracked and the passenger side is leaking like a sieve, truck sounds terrible. Bolts are REALLY stuck, of course. :x

My vacuum booster for the brakes is leaking air (you can hear it when you stand on the pedal) and I expect this isn't helping the truck idle very well. I imagine it's easiest to simply replace the entire unit? Not even sure you can rebuild the boosters any longer at home.

I did completely rebuild the front brakes:

Which made a huge difference, as you might imagine. I don't think the pads had ever been changed and had worn down to bare metal.

Also found the towing limit when I delivered the antique Ferguson I sold. With calcium-filled rear tires it probably weighed close to 5000 pounds, plus my trailer weighs 1200. Could not maintain 55 MPH on any grade. But temperature barely went up a needle's width and she did the job without complaint.

The paint is a love/hate thing with me. It's clearly worn out, but it's also the original paint. Hate to lose that but would like to see about at least getting the worn-through places protected without making the truck look awful.

Anyway, you can wake up now. Sorry I'm not around much, I have a million things going all the time.

Good looking truck. Looks a lot like mine. Or does mine look like yours? I would think towing 6200LPS should be no problem with your truck if your 360 is in good condition. Mine has a 390, and it has no problem with towing heavy loads. I am with you on the original color. Hate to loose it, but I probably will. Is that a gas filler door on the passenger side? I had a 65 CS that had 3 tanks. Behind the seat, and 2 wing tanks. My 68 has 2 tanks, both fill necks on driver side.

boosters arent serviceable by the common man. because of the hugh spring inside of them. you have to get a new one.

hey mancar1, do you if our paint color is the Mustang "Sunlit Gold"? Tried to get the build record for my truck but Ford said since it was a custom order they couldn't help me. I like the color, actually.

There are three tanks, but the one on the passenger side hasn't be used in years...I'd rather have a toolbox.

My truck seems to run pretty well, but it might be down on power. But even floored it wasn't going anywhere fast hauling that trailer with the tractor on it.

Nice truck! I was stationed up there at NAS Whidbey Island from May-Sept. of '84 for training when I was in the Marine Corps. What a wonderful place to live-so envy you!

It is Anniversary gold. At least that is what the Original owner wrote on the operators manual that was in the glove box. I am the 2nd owner. I didn't find anniversary gold on the Ford truck color chart. 67/68 timeline Mustang had some anniversary gold ones, I think.
Have you done a compression check? With low compression a truck can still run ok, but underload it wouldn't perform as well as one would expect. Especially going uphill.
I am sure you already know that. I'm just an old sailor blabbing on.

greenbank, the original owner may have had mine painted. Looking at his notes in the glove box. He had wrote on the operaters manual. (Ford WT colors, Bill Wing 52-53 Nesh Anniversary gold 1424H) Then he drew an arrow from that to the color code spot on the sample ID plate. Called his neice she thought the color was original, and her uncle always called it anniversary gold. He loved the 60's Stangs, so that may be why the color.
