dash ideas

Post by DDfab »

looking for ideas for my dash on my pro street 70. Looking for major change. Checking out ideas from newer f150's even seats are modified 03 f150. Putting an in dash dvd player in somewhere. Any ideas. Making a smooth arc from dash to door panel on top. Just trying to use the fab work without making it look dumb. Hoping to get some wok from this when done. Thanks

first start with a template from cardboard for the arc then you could make the arc out of some sheet metal or fiberglass your choice. as far as the in dash you can either do a single din in the regular dash spot or create a custom lower set up to go under the dash on the hump

I guess it depends on what you want the truck to do. Pro Street was supposed to be about minimalist race cars that were street driven, no fluff or BS, all metal ready to run. I don't see an in dash DVD working well under a pro street theme. A single DIN style radio with a pop up screen is going to crash into the dash cap unless you have the body sticking way out of the dash.

For different how about retro look of a '05 and up mustang dash in the truck or better yet, fab and form it out of metal with the center drop to a console (or just a bolstered drop that kicks back to the firewall) to hold your electronics and AC controls.

The big downside on these trucks is the short windshield to seat distance. It's hard to fit AC and a cool dash in the space.

IMHO Dakota Digital looks too Knight Rider for these trucks and is a catalog hot rodders answer to custom work. If you can fab, dig something out of a scrap pile and make it look cool while working in the truck.

My tach came out of a Bluebird bus, looks stock and I massaged some EMT to make a housing for it to mount to the column. Sanded the tubing on the lathe and sprayed with clear for a brushed look. The back cap was 18ga beaten with a ball peen on a rag pile. Squeezed the stand around a chunk of 1x1 steel in a vise to get the florm I wanted. Welded everything on the inside so it wouldn't show. Took a couple hours to make something cool vs. browse the Summit catalog on the crapper just to end up like every other gomer...

whole dash will be steel. Just using newer truck as ideas. It is narrowed and tubbed, but also has vintage air set and nicer seats. Basicay tubbed pro touring

Check your laws very carefully about that indash DVD player. Many places it is illegal to have one where it can be seen by the driver during vehicle operation.
