Paint gun suggestions

Post by Fordfool »

Hey guys, I am going to buy a paint gun to do some painting on my truck and was wondering what guns you used or suggest purchasing. I wanna both primer and finish paint with the gun (hopefully). Thanks

For the backyard painter, especially those who only do this once or twice and can't afford or justify the high-dollar guns, you can't beat the Devilbiss FinishLine pieces. I occasionally frequent the body-shop forums and this seems to be a popular recommendation.

CLICK HERE to see the setup at Eastwood.

Of course, you DO have to have an air compressor capable of handling the air requirements, as with any gun.

Fordfool, go on eBay and look... I just saw a pretty new Walcom GEO gun on there for about $150... I paid over $750 for the one I have. You can get some really good deals there sometimes.
I've always been amazed at how people will spend thousands of dollars on a pickup or car and then not spend a few hundred to get a good paintgun that will help them do a good job on what everyone sees first!

I painted my truck(first paint job) with a $100 crafstman HVLP gun)
I get complimanets on it so it must be OK.
I also have a $100 Porter Cable HVLP gun I mainly use for spraying Poly or Laquer on my wood working projetcs. I build cabinets in my backyard shop for a living.
Both do a good job.

SATA Jet90... the choice of most pros.
It's a gravity feed high pressure-if you're after results an HVLP is lacking, although a Geo is one of the better units available, and they do save paint, but are not very forgiving when it comes down to laying down a wet coat without runs.
A high pressure gun shoots metallics with less mottling. and breaks up clear better.
I feel a lot more like I do now than I did when I got here.
