Anyone know Willock Truck and Equipment Co?

Post by averagef250 »

My 70 F-250 was ordered with a Willock swivel frame (this much I know), but until this morning I've found very little information about who Willock was/is. This morning I ran across these old Willock ads on google. I was told by the trucks prior owner that my truck is one of 3 that were ordered by Pacific Power in 1969. I'd like to verify this story if possible. If I could get ahold of someone involved with Willock I might be able to do this.

If anyone's curious the swivel frame has worked very well. I removed the willock parts from the frame years ago and have kept them safe while contemplating what I want to do with them. Substantiating the story that the swivel is original and made by Willock will cement my decision to re-install the joint. I removed the joint because it is shot, it needs a complete overhaul and some minor design tweaks.

So what is it? An articulating frame where the cut it in half behind the cab and make it act like an old Gamma goat?

There was an article in Vintage Truck Magazine about a Power Wagon with a setup like that. I don not remember if it the same manufacturer, but it was a similar setup.

Much simpler than a Gamma goat. Just a joint allowing the frame to swivel in the center. This is a 50's Powerwagon, one of close to 50 built. The joint under my 70 is larger than the PW piece.

The Willock ad has a BC address on the second page. That address doesn't make sense to me. I've googled the whole address then just the 2nd street portion and the fairmont portion. Both of those show no signs of Willock, but it could have been there in days gone.

Here's a short, but related thread on the Vintage Truck Board.

This picture is off an original Willock 55 powerwagon for sale on ebay. This joint is identical to the one under my 70, though the crossmember under mine is larger. The Willock/Truckstell plaque is still on the joint I have, but has been painted over and damaged to be unreadable.

I've only seen that setup on one Power-Wagon that was on Ebay at one point don't think I saved the pictures though. I thought it was pretty neat though, and one of a very select few to boot, I imagine yours is probably more rare than the PWs with this setup as it seems like most everyone is bringing up the PWs with this setup. Still it's really neat and like you said if you could gain some credibility to that story on your truck that would be totally awesome 8).
