Bump Insurance??

Post by 19agin »

Trying to convince my insurance company that my bump is worth more than the $300 or that their book say it is. Has anyone had to get an appraisal or supply documentation proving that it is worth more? Thanks

I had Mercury Insurance years ago and I wanted full coverage on the truck. They had me bring it down so they could take pictures and make sure everything worked on it. Since then I have only carried liability.

I checked into "classic insurance" when I bought it. The price wasn't bad if you only drove it less than 500 miles a year. And only drove it to car shows. And parked it inside. And kept it covered. And waxed it daily. And I don't do any of that stuff except wax it daily!! :D

I have my bump insured with full coverage, free towing...ect.. I had to have pictures of it and I don't have to have antique tags on it but i do because they are permanent. I could register it normally though. I can only drive it 2400 miles a year, which I don't do anyway with it so that is no problem. The insurance company is SafeCo. They have treated me very well.

I have Liability, and Comp. (AAA) Got the 200 mile tow. with their Auto Club. They didn't even ask anything other than the vin. and lic. Would'nt be worth it to me to even think about full coverage. Unless it is a show quality Truck why full coverage? Sometimes we may think our trucks are worth more than they are. Just my opinion. Cause I have been guilty of that.

My insurance company told me to have my truck appraised by an appraiser who specializes in classics. It's been several years but at the time it cost me $100. He took pictures and did a full write-up which I took into the insurance company. I've been thinking of asking if it's valid for life or if I need to have it done again. In some regards my truck is in better shape than it was than and in others it's not as good.

Progressive will full coverage especialy if you have a secondary/newer car that you put on the list first with full coverage. Never have Had a claim with them though so don't know if full coverage on the older stuff is worth iyt with them as they may just total it for the 300 your insurance says yours is worth. :dk: If your willing to meet the mileage and daily wacx and garage it requirements of Places like Haggerty, then that may be the only way, also ask about agreed value insurance.

Like ForingaMex posted, the antique and classic insurance in Ontario is very affordable. The few requirements that they have are real easy to cover. The Company that I am with requires that you have your vehicle re-appraised by a licenced appraiser, every five years. They do not really limit us as to the use of our vehicles, but another stipulation is to not leave your vehicle unattended in a mall parking lot while shopping. Cruise nights are a different story. Most vehicles are left unattended and nobody bothers them as there are many owners walking about, and watching.

I actually don't have antique/classic insurance on mine, just regular insurance. I have no restrictions on the use of my truck. They just asked for an appraisal to know how much it's worth in case of an accident. I've never had a claim so I don't know what they would do. My truck was appraised at $9200 and my insurance premium didn't go up at all after the appraisal.

I had my last GH truck insured for $30,000.00.
I sent them a apraisal from my local Ford dealer, and 2 ads from when 2 sold on ebay for close to that amount, and they insured it for that amount.

The term is a stated value policy. Companies will require an appraisal. Unless it is a stated value policy, you are insuring for the book value of the vehicle. Insurance companies use something akin to KBB or nada. If the vehicle is more than 75% damaged it is considered totaled and you get the book value. Less than 75% they will fix it.

On a stated value, you are insuring for that value, and on classic vehicles you should update periodically. Be careful to read the policy to know what you have. Better to know before the accident. The other part of it is if your vehicle is stated value and someone hits you, the other company will not be able to offer you $300 on a $9000 vehicle.

I have mine insured thru Hagerty Insurance. Full coverage with a stated value of $10,000. Costs me $180 per year. I'm required to have another buggy on a seperate policy and they limit me to 5000 miles per year. It got about 400 miles on it this year.
