72 F100 Rebuild

Post by tphelon10 »

Well, this is my first restoration. I'm starting with an all original 2WD shortbed '72 F100. It has 138,000 miles and is in good enough shape that I drove it home after I bought it. The 302 leaks a little oil and needs to be cleaned up inside and out, but should not be a big project. The 4-speed shifts fine and is still on the original clutch. The frame and sheet metal have some rust, but for a truck that has spent almost 40 years in the northeast it's in great shape. I plan to restore it as I drive it, at least until I go into the engine and body work.

First project- Rear frame + suspension, getting all the rust off and throwing a coat of por-15 on it.

I as well am doing a driver resto at the same time. I plan to get the bed off and redo the rear end sometime as soon as she is driving good and stopping well. I am working on body work and rust in the cab first off. It looks like a good truck, but there is more work that you think, but it is fun to me and I am sure you will have a blast. Keep us updated
