as far as the dead head ship. i read that on yahoo news. otherwise i wouldnt have even known about it. i cant see how or why they would deadhead anyway. maybe faster reloading since they didnt have to unload when they got there. the deal about ma and pa shops. we no longer have any of those kinds of places. they are long gone. so we are stuck.
I had to go to South Dakota five or six years ago to bury a cousin. Fargo or some bigger city, can't remember now. In the week we were there, we couldn't find any small Ma & Pa type stores. Everything was a cookie-cutter strip-mall filled with all the Corporate America shops. All I wanted was a nice place to eat lunch. Every place we saw, I had this to say, "We have that back home. And I didn't like it there so why should I like it here!?"
I wanted to experience another part of America that I had never experience before, and may never have the chance to experience again. I guess I was a few years to late.
Here in Los Angeles we still have a few Ma & Pa shops. But they're getting harder to find. I support them by shopping at them and not shopping at the (yuk) chains.
There is a simple way for each of us to combat this problem; don't buy things made in China.
Not only will you be helping the economy, you'll also get the satisfaction of purchasing a quality product that will not fall apart in a week.

Oil companies fall into a similar category. We support what we complain about by continuing to buy more oil and gasoline. If we were serious about our complaints, we would stop driving our gas guzzling cars and trucks and start pedaling bicycles. We (well I don't) talk as if the oil companies should be shut down, without realizing the impact that would have on our society.
Take a look around at your own life and the items in it. How many things do you have that are petroleum based? Polyester; Lexan; Fiberglass resin; Nylon stockings, The frames of your glasses; Credit and debit cards; Styrofoam take-out containers; Plastic flatware; Grocery bags; Trash bags; My computer mouse and keyboard; Half of a new car;
Where does it stop? How many of those items can you live without? Or would convenience be compromised?
I confess. My life would come to a screeching halt if petroleum disappeared overnight.
Bought a new USN Retired cap recently. Checked the tag the other day. Made in Vietnam. Kind of a kick in the Butt for a 61 yr old career service man.

That's just not right. Especially not the hats made in 'Nam . Reminds me of Veteran's Day at our school. We had a bunch of Veterans come down to our football field as we filled the bleachers to listen to them talk. As they were telling there stories we were waving American flags that were made in.....China . If nothing else it would be nice for at least the patriotic symbols of America to be made here.

That is something I always check to make sure my flags are American made. I buy the Flags for our home 22' flagpole, and the ones for the cemetery from Carrot-Top Industries. They are made in the USA.

I'll be sure to remember that company. When we replace the flag on the flagpole at our house we go to the Ma & Pa store up the street, not sure what the name of the Company is that makes them but they are made in America as well.
