Miles per gallon for a 2bbl 360

Post by wareaglef100 »

Anyone with a 2bbl carb on a 360 that can give some feedback on approximately how many miles per gallon you get?

My recollection from one I had before the transplant... I got about 9-10 mpg back and forth to work and might eek out 11 or 12 on the turnpike. That was 411 gears not locked in and I live in a hilly area. Depends on gears, hills, auto or stick, hubs in or out, driving habits etc. Maybe even 14 plus if your a flatlander and have airplane gears in it. That can be said for pretty much any old V8. Four barrel won't hurt the mpg if you keep your foot out of the extra two...!

Fresh tune-up, 10 miles per gallon. In need of tune-up, 7 to 8 miles per gallon. I use my mileage as an indicator of when my truck is in need of a tune-up before it starts shooting ducks or running poorly.

These figures are for my 1970, F250, C/S, 2WD, Passenger Car 390 with a 4V Carter Carb, Points Distributer, C6 automatic, 3.73 Rear Axle Ratio as a reference point. I know it's NOT a 360, but felt it might give you a starting point.

What would be helpful is to know your Truck's specifications, I.E. F100, 2WD, SWB, Etc, Etc...

360 2bbl in a 1969 F-250 with 4.10 gears got between 8 and 12, 8 mixed driving and 12 if you were running a steady 55-60 topps

360 4bbl in the same truck with a nice big lumpy cam, headers, and dumps, 8-12 gallons per mile and unlimited smokey burnout smiles

I get 10MPG empty on the freeway
I get 10MPG around town
I get 10MPG pulling travel trailer
I get 10MPG pulling the 24ft fiberglass boat

I average 10 MPG in 360 2bbl in a 1971 F-250 with 3.73 gears...

I see you list an F100 so in my 68 F100 360, 2BBL, AT running 75-80 on the interstate, I was getting 14 mpg. Around town, I never checked it. All my others were standard shifts and got 10 mpg.

I thought with the 360 it was rated by GPM, gallons per mile?
