Need moral support

Post by Brokenarrow »

Guys, please tell me I'm not crazy. Here's the deal, I have this new King Ranch :D , but every time I need to go to town for something I walk right past it and drive the old '68  . I have people ask me all the time, "Why the he77 are you still driving that old truck, I thought you got a new one". And I really have no good explanation, only, "You know me, I just like my old Fords I guess". They just shake their heads like I'm out of my mind. So tell me, am I truly "out of my mind", or do they just not get it. :?

Just tell them the new truck just depreciates when I drive it, the old one appreciates it.

Haha, Thanks I like that, definitely gonna use that one. Of course my affliction might be partly caused by the intoxicating sound of a strong Ford FE roaring through glasspacks and the occasional :shh: smell of burning rubber, :hmm: ya think?

That and the characteristic squeak the door hinges make when you open the door. Its a bumps way of saying "welcome back"

Well, first off, you're not nuts.

Now, answer me this: How does the new Kings Ranch drive? Does it feel like a truck (We all know the Bump drives like a truck.) Or does it wallow like a big old Cadillac?

When the motor in my 70 died, I went out and test drove some newer trucks thinking I might be better off just getting something newer. Nothing I drove, drove like a truck! They all looked, felt and smelt like a big luxo-boat. I couldn't stand it. It was real easy to realize that I would constantly be unhappy and would be kicking myself if I had a modern luxo-boat-of-a-truck.

The '09 drives like a dream and smells like a saddle-shop 8) . I know what you mean by "does it feel like a truck" and yes it does. More so than the '04 F150 I had, and MUCH more so than the '06 silverado :shh:  that is my work truck. It actually doesn't feel as big as it is when you're driving it.

You're probably right fordman, I've had an old Ford truck of some sort as a driver since about 1980 so my mind must be pretty comfortable with'em 8)

The new trucks are nice with all their options but our old bumps are still the best. Now, if they made a new truck with the old bump body style there may a lot more interest. Its all about the bump character.

Why is it that the trucks are always the best running vehicles in the family?

Which one gets you noticed more  the old bump that sticks out in a crowd or the new truck that blends in with everyone else on the road, they wouldn't even know you showed up if you weren't driving the cool one. 8)

Seems like I do get more thumbs-up from strangers in the old truck :hmm: Must mean it a has a higher "cool factor" than the new one 8) .
