Memorial Day 2011

Post by BobbyFord »

I hope everyone has an awesome and safe Memorial Day weekend. Get plenty of BBQ and get your fill of family and friends. If you say grace before you eat don't forget to include a prayer and a thank you to those that served and made the ultimate sacriface so that we can live in this great country of ours. Thanks to all the troops...active, retired, living or otherwise...
Fly your flags proudly this weekend.

Today at the cemetery I manage we are having a memorial for all the sevice members that made the ultimate sacrifice for this great country. The service takes place by the grave of a Special Forces Sergeant that lost his life in Afganstan 5 years ago. He left behind a toddler, and his wife.
Yes, thanks to them all.

To many times I have stood at attention, a salute rendered Taps playing while trying to hold back the tears as you pay respect to a friend that by circumstance became family. Even being from a military family I never truly understood this day. Not until I lived the true reason for it. You never hear the names on the TV anymore just numbers. But each one of those numbers devastated someones world, and those individuals gave all. That is what this day is for, so that hopefully in the hearts of the American people they are not just a number.

I hope everyone gets to spend time with the family, work on their trucks, BBQ, and hit the lakes and do some swimming in fishing. That is why I do what I do, and that is why those who gave all did what they did. Take a moment though and remember what this day is for.
