Grandpa 1916-2011

Post by F100builder »

Some of you may have seen the pics I posted of my grandpa's 1950 COE that he bought NEW and I used to drive when I worked for my dad. I was working with my uncle and cousin to finish up the restoration hoping that the old boy would get to drive it again. Well, my grandpa passed away on Father's Day yesterday at the age of 94. I have never met anyone that worked harder than my grandpa and he has the forearms and hands to show for it. He used to say, "I can't sit down to rest...I might not get back up!". My grandpa sure did a pretty good job of living! I'm gonna miss him. Rest in peace Grandpa...I love you.

My condolences to you regarding your grandpa. I'm sure he was thrilled with the restoration progress even though he didn't get to drive it. That's a great looking truck!

My grandpa was also born in 1916. He passed away in 2003. You were fortunate to have yours around as long as you did.

I lost my "Papaw" in 1993 at the age of 88. I can remember in my late teens and early 20's I would get so frustrated with him helping me change my oil or mowing the grass. He was so slow and meticulous and explained in excruciating detail all the what and why. Now, looking back, I'm grateful for the things he taught me and the way he taught me. Funny, I find myself explaining to my children, in their 20's and 30's, the same way he did me. And yes, they look at me the same way I did him back then. I can hear the sighs when they have to ask for my help because they know what they're in for  The biggest compliment I get now is when my grandchildren call ME "Papaw" and I pray that he approves of the man I've become. I'm sorry for your, and the world's, loss. God bless the Papaws!

My respects. You were very lucky to know even one of your Grand dads. I never met either one of mine and my grand mothers lived too far away to visit more than once a year.
They grew men hard back then there is no doubt about that. They were the best generation by far.
I am very lucky to still have both my mom and dad but both are in their mid 70's. I have some hard days coming but they taught me a lot.
Sure wish he could have driven that COE again.
I respect ya'll for trying.

I think this exact thought all the time, when I think about my dad, who died in 2005...didn't know my dad's dad, barely knew my mom's dad, but thank God for all the great Dad's and Grandpa's!!!!!

Sorry to hear your lost your grandpa. Our thoughts go out to you. I lost mine two days before I turned 16. Not quite the present I wanted.
