I checked the plug that's on the '69 F250, and that's when I noticed that the pickup, and the trailer, have a flat 5 plug hookup. The 5th plug went to the backup lights. Oh, pooh, I thought. Now I'll have to change those. Plus I'll lose the backup lights on the trailer, which I liked having.
I have a spare 4 plug setup, and on a whim I plugged each end into the 5 plug on the pickup and trailer. They fit!

So, as it turns out, I can pull the bump trailer with the van, and I can pull any other trailer wired with a 4 plug, wired to DOT standards, with the pickup. Pulling the bump trailer with the van, I'll lose the backup lights, and few other small trailers I would pull with the pickup would probably have have backup lights anyway. Pulling the bump trailer with the pickup, I still have backup lights. So I guess I'm good to go!
I love those rare occasions when things turn out right!
