Fireworks

So Sunday night I decided to take my girlfriend over to a buddies house. I should add that untill then he had not met her before and was unaware she had served in the army and is a bit jumpy.

Anyway when I had talked to him on the phone I got the idea he was drunk. Well when we pulled up as soon as we got out of the truck they start shooting off fireworks. I should add I was warned that fireworks were a sure way to trigger a flashback episode for my girlfriend.

She immediately started backing away from me and the truck after I had yelled at her to get back in. (I had figured the faster I got her away from there the faster she would snap out of it) Instead she just kept backing away from me every time I tried to walk towards her. Tried calling her name and saying that everything is ok but she just stood there with this far off look. At this point I walked off thinking shes ok but pissed as hell at me.

Then she did venture up to the house but would not go in the garage where everyone was hanging out. I stepped inside to answer the call of nature and came back out to find her gone. Ended up finding her on the far side of my truck huddled up against the tire crying.

Got her somewhat calmed down and one of my buddies friends decided to light one of those fireworks that spin round on the ground and shoots colord stuff. Comes on a string looks like firecrackers.

She went nuts at this point. I got her to get in my truck but only from the drivers side.

Man.....

Suffers from PTSD and is on meds.

I can see where an honest mistake was made by oldred. But unfortunately it is hard to be angry at your buddies if they had no clue what she had going on with her. Did you expect your buddies to not shoot off fireworks? They are your buddies and you most likely knew that they would do something. Right?

I had no idea, and it was July 9th. Fireworks like that aren't legal here anyway.


I would not have knowingly put her in that situation because it was not fun to deal with afterwords.
And she told me that fireworks were a bad idea. Also I told my buddies about that a few weeks ago.

I guess the point of my thread was advice on dealing with someone that can have flashbacks.

Your support and understanding will go along way. You might want to hit the webb on PTSD and read up on it and give yourself a better understanding of it.

Ok that does clear it up. I agree that its a good idea to look at the web. Does she have a therapist or anyone to help her deal with her flashbacks?
