why sell truck but keep title ?

Post by stephen44 »

So I'm probably showing my naivety but in this add on craigslist is says

"ATTN: Not parting out or Trades . CASH ONLY 1000 .

OR

800 WITHOUT THE TITLE.

'67 Ford F100 Short-Bed (Clean Title)
AC and Windshield Wipers Still Works.
390 Big Block W/ 84k miles (Dual Pipes, Runs and drives great)
It was originally a column shifter, But it was converted over to an automatic in the floor.
Have a minor dent on the driver side door (Which can be seen in the pictures)"

so i get no title = for parts

but what does the seller gain by keeping the title and reducing price by $200 - it is no use for any other vehicle is it (naivety shining out now  )
thanks

Might also be that it wasn't registered in a few years and he would have to pay all the late fees and whatever else it would take to update title/registration...Doesn't sound like a salvage issue....

:yt: I bet he owes a bunch of late taxes on it like county tax or city taxes.
I once bought a 96 Mustang to fix my daughter's 96 Mustang. I could spend $750 without or $1300 with title signed in my name. The guy owed a lot of back taxes on it. I didn't need a title since I was buying it for parts. I pulled the complete front clip and both doors plus a lot of under the hood parts off it and sold the remainder. Put her slightly dented doors on it and sold it for $750 on Craigslist. I saw it on Evilbay the very next day for parts.
I once bought a 71 F100 shortbed for parts. Got what I wanted off it and put it up for sell. A guy bought it and I couldn't find the title for it. He was buying it for parts and didn't care. I found the title a year or tow ago in an out of the way place so now I have a useless title for a 71 F100. lol

You know, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, or necessarily think they're all out to get us, but this sticks a little in my craw---the fact that states are starting to charge back registration fees and such from vehicle owners...Registering a vehicle so it can safely drive on the road is one thing, but making the owner register a vehicle every year that's growing patina in the backyard???...Think about it, like in cdeal's case...Too expensive to keep the truck around as a titled, complete vehicle...So strip it for parts and off to the crusher...

One of my favorite states to drive through is New Mexico...I think every vehicle ever titled their is still residing in someone's backyard or junkyard off Rte. 40 from Gallup to Tucemcari...It's one of the 'enchanting' things about the state...A local yard owner, in Santa Rosa, told me a couple years ago that the state was starting to 'crack down on that', whatever that means...He had about 100 cars, none newer than a 1971, and had to classify his place as a museum to keep the powers that be off his back...So he would accept donations and let you look around at all the old iron...

So far, I don't think Arizona is one of those states, but I sure hope it doesn't become one...

They don't do that in Texas.. Heck, my 74 F-100 has been unregistered, uninspected, and sitting
since 2007.. I've got it stored away in the garage.
Mainly because I didn't want to triple dip on the insurance. If I were to want to get it legal again,
all I have to do is sign an affidavit that the car has not been driven, and I pay just the current year
fees to bring it up to date. No way I would pay years of back taxes for a vehicle that hasn't been driven.
And I wouldn't buy a vehicle that required me to pay someone else's back taxes to get it legal.
Heck, my 68 F-250 had sat in a garage for three years before I got it.
I didn't have to pay any back taxes to get it legit.
I kinda miss not being able to drive the 74, but with the car, and the 68 truck, I just didn't
want to pay the extra fees and insurance for something I might drive once a month if that..
I've tried to sell it, but previous prospects keep flaking out on me.. Now I'm about to the
point I'd just as soon keep it just for parts if anything. A good number of the parts on it could
be used on the 68.. And some of those parts, like say brake pedal assemblies, clutch pedal
parts, etc, etc are getting harder and harder to find every day. But it's still totally intact at
this point. I wouldn't likely take parts off it unless I really had to.
