Ford Reintroduces 1964 -1966 mustang body style for $15000

Post by Nickabocker »

Ford Motor Co. will soon sell brand-new 1965 Ford Mustangs for just $15,000 each. The only hitch: There's some assembly required.

As part of its Ford Reproduction business, Ford revealed today it had approved a new stamping of the steel bodies for first-generation Mustang that buyers could then build into their own 1964 1/2 through 1966 Mustang, using whatever engine, axles, interior and other parts they can find on their own.

The first-generation Mustangs rank as America's most-restored vehicle, and the cottage industry of reproduction parts has grown to where it's possible to build a Mustang just as it would have appeared on the showroom floor in the mid-1960s, down to the pushbutton AM/FM radio.

Ford says the new body shell built by California-based Dynacorn has been improved only slightly with modern welding techniques and rustproofing, and comes out of the crate nearly ready for paint and assembly. The company already offers metal bodies for Mustangs from 1967 through 1970, and has been in talks with Ford to remake the original body of the Ford Bronco. There's still life in those old horses yet.

thought this might make some restorers happy :)

This is pretty cool.

I wonder how good the quality really is. If minimal work to paint is really true that's a pretty good deal.

Ill be buying one when Dynacorn remakes the 68 convertable. $15,000 and no rust to repair, sounds like a deal to me.

Almost tempting for my '66 project but it's steep. My '66 has some pretty bad rot on the drip rail and the B pillar. The wife would be happy if I made it a convertible since we're getting rid of the ragtop in our fleet (POS Mini).

Yeah, I'd like to see a fastback. Thats one car I would still like to own someday. I've owned one of each year, 64 1/2, 65 and 66 but they were all coupes. the picture is a little misleading because that price doesnt include fenders and hood.

Go to their website, they do have fastbacks. Which in my opinion are very worth the 15k.
You can't barely get a 40 YO needs-restoration fastback for 15k.

Not such a "deal" in my opinion (and I've restored 4 65/66's. If you shop around, you can find a very nice convertible in the mid-20's - all the headaches/EXPENSE of restoration is done and you're riding around being cool. With one of these kits you still have to find a frame/engine/drivetrain/interior etc, etc, etc. You could wind up with $40,000 in a $25,000 car - been there, done that.

Who doesn't wind up with $40K in a $25K car? I'd like to know that one.

Muscle cars are a status symbol for a lot of people. The more it costs, the more they can boast.

Its a good deal in my opinion if you someone has the same car. Ive still got my first car from 30 years ago, A 69 Mach1 that a van ran into the front end and busted the shocktower and bent the frame, Without something like dynacorn to work with that 40+ y.o. car thats been sitting for 25 years would never see the road again. And living in the rust belt no matter how much money someone spends on a car if it starts as a rusty POS the finished car will be a expensive rusty POS.

I too have a 69 Mach I (photos in my gallery) and have restored several 65-66 coupes as my first car was a 66 coupe. Love of the car does not make dollars spent on it "a deal". If one wants to throw away money - and I have done it quite a few times - that's their decision, but I was responding to comments on the Dyancorn bodies being "a deal" - - again, I hardly think so.
Not too many folks restore what is considered a "common" POS. I have just spent $27,000 on my 72 F-100 - it may be worth $12,000 - $15,000. A "real deal" huh! It's a matter of love for the vehicle - but don't call them all "a deal"!!
