OT - g body time

Post by hedz »

once upon a time i had a 78 monte carlo. my ma had me sell it for a lie. that farce of a promise has ate away at me for many long years thinking about it every day. i'm sorry but once i get jewed i always seek vengeance and there isn't a thing i can do when its family. a few weeks ago my ma bought a 79 monte which i'll post pics of soon. i've been using it as my daily driver. since it wasn't given to me as compensation but rather as a taunt, i wanted my 78 back even more. i tracked it down. i found the kid who bought it from me. he slammed it into a telephone pole and survived two gun battles - the thing is littered with bullet holes. it's pretty much ruined. and i'm getting it back. i'm purchasing a 73 grand am black on black with center console and power windows and a 400 with a lemans front bumper and front fascia and a 1965 buick duece and a quarter for $900 together. i have convinced the kid to take the 65 buick in a trade so i can get the monte back. i'm going to rebuild it. i know these cars like the back of my hand. i can't wait. i will never sell family heirlooms ever again, no matter how much some asshole doesn't want me to have it. i'll hang onto this car wrecked or built until i die, and only blood in the family will obtain ownership. i still have the build sheet for it.

i'm going to look at a 72 455 broken down grand prix next week. i have a pontiac fanatic friend who i'm going to attempt to trade the 73 grand am and possibly this grand prix for his wrecked 86 buick grand national. if i can pull this trade off i'm swapping the rear end, transmission, and engine into the monte. and if that trade isn't good enough i'll find out what the man needs and make it happen. this is a long shot and many months and probably many years away from fruition but i'm excited about all of this and wanted to share it with all of you. i just moved into a shotgun in the ghetto and i'm getting my rides moved to this location currently. reason why i have not been able to do much. the dump has required many many hours getting it handy. dishwasher, cabinets, plumbing, gas, oven etc. etc. can't wait to turn wrenches again an idn a spot where i'm free to turn them without somebody crying their stupid little eyes because i have a real hobby and they don't

going to keep it simple. one 78 monte carlo and one 72 f100. and if i can ever find a 59 or 60 2 door pontiac :D.

Thought I would post a update. On a plane to renO to handle some biz.  Didn't go check out the grand prix. Yanking the 425 nailhead and switchpitch out of the 65 elektra. I'd have to be a fool to trade this badass drivetrain to the gangster who ruined my Monte. Putting a weak 301 that runs in it's place lol. He'll never get it right anywho the buick will just end up with more bullet holes in a fiery crash of drug induced mayhem. I scored on the grand am.  I think i am keeping it for now. 400 400 car. Black on black with pwr windows and ac. White pinstripe. No nose cone. Reconned my lemans nosecone grills headlight assembly from the scumbags house that stole my Catalina. Will go on the grand am. 400 motor has my fav 4x heads. Has a thrown rod. Can't wait to rebuild and stroke it out. Headers came with it too.  I know the history on the trans. Good friend of mine built it.  All reAdy for some rubber burning high power numbers. Plan to frAnkenstein it to a switchpitch hybrid which IMO is a superior design.  The 79 Monte is running like a charm. Pluga wires cap rotor oil change trans flush tires fuel filter and cans of heat and seafoam in the gas tank and manifold dual 2" exhaust woke her up nicely.  When I get back will be my mission to buy a new digi camera.  And if Any of you see a cheap regal or gn g body with the turbo drivetrain let me know

The best time I had in a G-body was cruising 50 MPH in an 84 Pontiac 305/700R4 Parasini wagon with the radio cranked (to drown out the rod knock) through a field of Christmas trees, big ones, like the ones they didn't cut down and got about 15 feet tall. It was as if the engineers had designed the car to be FUN to destroy. The way all the plastic crap would crack and crumble and fly at you, how the interior lights would flicker with every major jolt the car took, how the fan belts would start squealing if you forget to upshift. One larger tree hit so hard the entire headlight bucket/plastic/crap/thing blew out on both sides and hung by the wires. It was like the car wanted to take the easy way out, like it knew it shouldn't have been built and tried to extinguish it's own headlights so we'd crash it, but there were enough ruts and stump holes to bounce the headlights up in the air. Enough of a flicker to get our bearings and keep the pedal to the floor.

G-bodies are the greatest car any group of youth could ever do incredibly senseless activities with.

yea the interiors don't hold up worth a poot. and the aluminum hoods and trunks and plastic front and rear bumpers with the worst designed bumper supports is a sad site even with a tiny fender bender. and that is why this company dixie monte carlo showed up. they redid all the interior molds with superior plastic. and many companies offer redesigned gauge clusters. these cars get modernized all the time and when they are done proper i suuuuuuuuure to like them. and the g bodys are absurdly light. a 305 cammed with headers on a 700r4 is actually potent for a somone who likes to chirp tires. you won't be beating alot of cars on the road, except for low end yo boys and rice burners :D
