Hi!
I lucked into a factory AM/FM radio recently for my new '72 F-100, but have a problem -- the plugs were cut off before I got it.
It is a '72 F-100 radio (stamped D2TA-19A241) and looks just like the one pictured elsewhere in these forums.
There are four wires, and it doesn't look like there were ever any others. This makes me wonder how they got two speakers (AM/FM selector bar says "STEREO") hooked up to this radio.
I'm guessing one wire is radio power, another is for the dial light, and the last two are for the speaker(s).
The wires are:
1.) White
2.) Black with a red dashed tracer
3.) Orange with a yellow tracer (?)
and lastly,
4.) Black (which goes into a cylindrical tube mounted on top of the radio)
I plan to rummage through my junk boxes to gather up the correct plugs to install this radio in the truck, but need help to know which wires do what things. I want to avoid chopping up any wiring on the truck by fixing the wiring on the radio, if at all possible.
Thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to help!

Here's a picture of what you should be seeing...this is a '71-'72 AM/FM radio:
...and here's a scan from the factory '71 wiring diagram:
The black wire coming out of the cylinder appears to be the main ground. The three remaining wires are your speaker wires, with a common ground. The white goes to the right side and the orange goes to the left side.
Hope this helps.

Keith --
YES! That helps!
(I thought I had good documentation -- you put my collection to shame!)
Oh where, oh where, were you guys when I was screwing my junkyard-refugee '67 back together in 1989?
So much time, trouble, blood, sweat, tears, money, barked knuckles, and curse words could have been saved from the ears of impressionable youths -- if only....
Thanks again! (See PM)
