OT: Another tough old Ford

Post by AlleyCat »

The boss at my 2nd job bought this old gem at an equipment auction. He was the only bidder and got it for scrap price.

It's an N750 but I'm not sure of the year. Ford built the N series trucks from 63 thru 69. This one has a 330 V8 with a 5 speed trans, 2 speed rear axle, air brakes and armstrong steering. It's pretty rough but it runs and drives okay. I managed to save it from the torch by commandeering it for a yard truck to move storage trailers. It beats the daylights out of the L8000 that I had been using. The L8000 has serious wiring issues and had to be drag started every time I needed it.

Really wild Clay as i say one of these from a distance today on the back of a lot and wondered what make it was! Is the N model still considered a COE? Looks tougher that superman.

Jeff they are actually considered a short hood conventional. They were also offered as tandems. Ford built them with a bunch of different engine options ranging from a 300 6 cylinder in the medium duty versions up to several different Cummins and Detroit diesels in the heavy duty versions. With the inline diesels most of the engine sits between the seats.

I have a N750 at my work, it is a dump truck and we use it a lot. A very fun truck to drive I would like to try to buy it from the boss if he every wants to sell it.
