Re: Tire size
I've got a '72 LWB and a '69 Flareside with factory steel wheels on them. The '72 has P235/70R15's on all four corners. The '69 has P235/70R15's on the front and P255/70R15's on the rear. It gives the truck and nice raked look.
Half of something is better than ALL of nothing!

Re: Tire size
I would definitely use an LT (Light Truck) tire, not a P-Metric (the P is for Passenger Car). The LT's will cost a bit more, but are safer and will last longer while hauling loads. The size on the side of the tire will have a leading or trailing LT if it's an LT tire.
Example: 8.50x15LT or 30X9.50R15LT or LT235/75R15
I'm not sure what the F-100 came with from the factory. It may have come with 7.50x15 and most got upgraded to 8.50x15
I've got 9.50 (9.50x16.5) on my F-250, which are larger than stock and look good. 9.50 are hard to find now, the modern equivalent is a 30 or 31x10.5x16.5
