71 F350 Rad and Fuel Sending Unit Question

Post by LuvMyScamper »

Hello again from Nova Scotia:

Does LMC Truck not sell F350 parts? I was just looking at rads and gas tank sending units, but they only seem to list F250's. Does anyone know if rads and sending units would be the same between the two trucks models? Our truck is an F350 Scamper with a 360, dual rear wheels, and it has what I believe is the 25-gallon gas tank inside the frame on the driver's side. The gauge and wiring were tested and are okay, so the sending unit must be bad. I see that LMC truck sells a 22 1/2 gal. tank as a replacement for the original 25 gal. tank and all the parts for it, so I'm thinking the sending unit they are selling for this tank may not work in the original tank. Does anyone know? Or does anyone know where I could buy a new sending unit for this tank? None of our local parts stores list the 25-gal tank.

Second question - our truck has the super-cooling rad that has a small leak and the drain **** is toast. If we can find a local shop to re-core it, is that a better option than buying a new one? (I've been reading about how I should beware of cheap overseas rads).

Thanks in advance,

Cindy

I have recently had to buy a new radiator, 2 radiator shops here in Seattle said they were now unable (unwilling?) to get parts for recoring the old one. Was diffcult to find a correct replacement new radiator. So many sizes, front vs. rear mount, hose/outlet placement, flange differences etc.
I always like to keep the original parts if at all possible, helps make sure all will fit. I'd say recore if you can find a willing shop. Also, look for a small brass tag somewhere on the original, may have a part # should you need a new one.

For the fuel sending unit, try National Parts Depot, NPD. They show fuel sending units listings for f100-350.
Hope that helps!

Thanks! I'll check NPD for the sending unit.

I'm thinking the rad would be the same as the 250, probably the "tow package" version.

For a one ton you would more than likely have the 4 row super cooler. The core to rebuild the radiators are super high and most are going with the 3 row aftermarket aluminum ones.
here is the aluminum

I like the original my self but they are super high to rebuild! I was quoted over $400 just for a new brass copper core. I got lucky last month and found a new old stock never installed super cooler on ebay. I won the bid for 19.99 and payed $55 shipping and it got damaged in shipping and now have to get it fixed for another $100!!
If yours is leaking I would have it checked out to see if it might just need brazzing and a flush. Good luck with yours!

If you need a new fan shroud for that, let me know. I have one still in the box I have been tripping over for a year.

The truck now doesn't have a fan shroud, but it doesn't overheat - it actually seems to run cooler than it should - only 1/4 on the gauge. There was one hot summer day when we were trying to get it positioned at a campsite and it idled for a bit, and got a bit hot. We talked about a fan shroud then and wondered if the truck ever had one to begin with. Is the one you have for the super-cooling rad?

Pretty sure it came with one.
Yeah Cindy, it's for the sc rad. I ordered one for my truck (which does not have that rad) and they sent me the wrong one. I just ordered another and never got around to sending the other one back.

Cindy,
Sure wish I could get the search feature to work for me... :hw:
There are a dozen or more threads here on Fordification that show the difference between out "super-cooling" mounts in our F-350's versus the F-100 and F-250 standard mounts. One particular thread has very good pictures showing the difference.

Here are a couple of pics of a super cool radiator graciously provided by Fordman:

Hey woods, please shoot me a pm on how much you want for the shroud. Since you are in Washington, it will probably cost a fortune for you to ship to me (I'm in Canada on the opposite coast).

Our truck is in winter storage right now, but I have these pics from last summer which shows the rad support (each side). It looks the same to me as the one in Fordman's pics...what do you guys think?
