I know this is a Ford site but..... I drove my wifes 05 cheby cavalier to work the last couple days. We had the right front hub assembly replaced and I was checking out the gas mileage on the 2.2 Filled it back up today and it got 36.36 MPG after 160 miles. I may have to park the bump. NOT.
Mine stays parked a lot these days...My DD is a 1988 Chebby Nova (not one of the cool old Novas thats for sure). Its actually a rebadged Toyota Corrolla with a 1.6 liter carbed engine and a 5 speed manual. It REALLY gets 28 to 30 in town and if you stretch it out on a trip I have seen 38MPG! Not bad for 24 year old technology.
But it don't push me back in my seat like the BUMP. It gets about 8-10 MPG but many more SMILES per gallon.

I know. But we actually bought it for our daughter and she decided she couldn't afford to fix it. So we got it back and fixed it. Usually I don't allow chebys in my drive unless they're older classics. She said she could only get 150 miles out of a tank of gas. But then, she drives with her foot on the floor and she's used to the Cobra Mustangs. I think that's one reason we got it back.
Drive the 68/390 just for pleasure these days, and the Ford Escape as my DD. 22MPG is way better than 11.

My 2005 Ford focus wagon 5 speed averages just under 42 mpg at 60 mph.
I like that!
1972 F250 C6, 3:73 gears, 235/85/16 tires, rebuilt stock 360, 600cfm Holley, Edelbrock Performer intake, Stan's Tri-Y headers, 2 1/4" exhaust w/30" long glasspacks, 7 or 8 in city, 14 hwy. Sold that motor in 2007.
1976 F150 DD, (future engine donor for the '72) C4, stock 300/6, around 12 city, 19 hwy. With the efi mainifolds and Edelbrock 1V intake, I'm hoping for 20+ hwy.
Might add a Gearvendors OD (if I'm a Lottery winner), or an AOD next.
I miss the V8. The (lack of) mileage? Not so much.
I don't have my truck for mileage, but do see 10 city and 13 hwy outa a 390 2BBL and 3.25:1 rear with a C6.
For mileage i have a 3.8L V6(would this be a 260 v6? CID Talk) no idea on the rear but it is aod tranny maybe the 2nd AOD they built in the 80's and get 28.9 MPG on the hwy and about 22 mpgs in town.

That would be just a hair under a 232 a 231.8

I had to make a compromise. I can not afford to drive the bump everyday (72 Highboy) so I just bought a 91 Mercury Grand Marquis, gets over 20 on the road and its an American Made Ford.
I smell a custom frame swap type build in somebody's future... ;^p I'll even donate the cab, doors, fenders and hood, IF I still have them when you finally succumb to the bug.
Me, I drive a Sportage for mileage (around 23mpg). At least until I get or build a proper radiator for the beater oddball Tercel wagon (hopefully somewhere around 28-30)...
The bump... I don't even bother to worry about mileage too much... maybe I can even get the mileage (and speed) down further with some new rear gears by the time my daughter is ready to drive it.

I guess it depends on the year, but some of those Tercels got pretty danged good mpg..
My brother had a Tercel coupe back in the 80's or so, and that thing got 45-50 mpg on
the highway as I recall. Over 40 anyway.. I think his had a 5 speed.
I've had a 05 Corolla since 07.. Hard to believe it's already over 5 years since I bought
that thing. It had 24k on it when I got it.. Now it's got about 67k or so..
Haven't had a single problem with it so far.. Totally flawless.. Bang on wood..
The only thing I've done is change the oil every 5k, and got new tires at 58k.
It gets 43 mpg if you are doing 65 mph. About 41 at 70 I guess..
It's a fairly slippery car as far as the aerodynamics, and I also stayed with the
low rolling resistance tires when I got new ones.
Saves my butt on gas.. I just drive the truck for work, and when I actually need
a truck for hauling or whatever.
Heck... It's hard to believe I've already had my 68 F-250 for about 13 years..
I think I got it in April 99. Where does the time go.. :/

Yeah, the beater 87 Tercel is a FF Wagon, auto. Last of the Gen2 built in a Gen3 year, with a 70 something HP 3AC, that is about as big as the strange little transaxle can handle...
The manual was rated at ~40MPG and the auto was rated at ~38MPG, if I remember correctly. I figure with age of the vehicle, 10% Eth, and the difference in the new method calc... I'll be doing good if I see 28-30.
There were 4 different versions in 87 and 5 different radiators... of course, the 2WD Auto Wagon is the rarest, and apparently not built anymore. I have been looking for a new rad for 2 years. Only thing I can find is pulls... and that is one of the things I really don't like to buy salvage (who wants 25+years of sludge and scale), especially with it's plastic top (old means brittle). Probably going to end up buying one for a manual, relocating the mounts and adding a trans cooler. Did I mention I really don't like to buy salvage radiators?
