1967 f100 Questions

Post by Youngfordkid »

hello all,

since i am so new to these series of ford trucks i have a ton of questions. i live in twin falls idaho, and we have a great hot rod/classic car community here, but not too many around with the knowlege for these trucks. i just got this truck last weekend, for free, which is a awesome deal. i know how to weld, and use most shop tools and i am lucky with only being a teenager. my truck has decent paint but shows wear from living in washington which caused 90% of the rust in the truck. but its life began in wessington springs south dakota, in febuary of 1967. from what i understand, 1967 is a odd ball year, similar to 64s. the truck has the western jr. mirrors, and a deluxe heater. it has a 240 six, with the new process tranny. i would like to find out more about the truck, and what makes the 67s so odd. my grandfather has a 69 explorer model which he bought almost brand new, and i dont know much about it eithier.

so here goes:

where can i find engine specifics like measurements for the internals?

what was the acessory line up for that year, and were windsheild washers part of that?

what is the best place other than here to find more info on the 67s?

what are some tips and tricks you found on how to repair froze up master cylendars?

what should i look for in terms of finding rust outs/where do they usually occur?

i have the original owners manual, with the original owners name, and key number for the truck, which will help me in getting more keys made for the truck. i would like to get this thing on the road asap, so i can finish up my 51/52 f1.

thanks

The 67's had a smaller radio and opening, the heater controls for the deluxe heater are under the radio with 3 pull knobs, the standard heater was under the instrument bezel but only 1 pull knob, the door handles, door lock mech, the pop out windows in the door, the grill, I think the brake assembly, radio, and some that I might think of later.

The window washers should be standard by that time so check to see if they are there in the vents between the hood and windsheild.

I still think this is the best site to find info about the 67-72 trucks.

Keebob, I am sure his truck is 2wd, the 4wd only came with standard heater and 352.

The BEST place for most info is to go on E-bay and buy the factory service manuals, at least 1, 2 and 3; as they'd have all the info you need.

The most unique and hard to find items are the dash knobs (1 year only) and the AM only radio (1 year only). Most other items are available with some searching.

ok thanks,

i have most of the catalogs from lmc, macs, and other parts companys. my 67 is 2wd, and rides really well. acoording to the PO, he rebuilt the entire front end along with the brakes, which i hope he did.

the master cylinder seems froze up, which is about normal. i poped open the cover on it and there was no rust present in the chamber, just fluid, but the pedal wont move, and the clutch needs adjusted really bad. the PO also said that he blew out a wheel cylinder, which i have never hear of happening to a new part. i have a motors manual for 1967, so there should be some information in it.

i have the deluxe heater, with the three knobs, a blue washer bag, jack, and a extra set of lug wrenches and jack handles, plus the les scwap warranty papers for the tires, which may come in handy down the road.

so, can someone direct me to a place to get info on the adjustment spots of the clutch? and the parking break as well?

thanks

One thing you might want to consider is looking at posting specific questions in the topics on the forum. Engine questions in the engine forum........brakes in the brakes and suspension forum........etc etc. Most of the guys on here who have specific knowledge of one area or the other tend to read the specific topics. The more info you can provide on a specific problem the more likely it is that you will get a reply from the old heads on here that know these old trucks all too well.

Yeah how's your mechanical ability? You should start by going over the brakes completely. The MC and wheel cylinders are not real expensive, but it adds up. The brakes are pretty basic, clean them up and get them working 100%.
The 240is a good engine. Economical compared to the 352 that was in the 67's.
Longed or short?
My first truck was a 52F1.

my mechanical ability is really good. i can do a basic overhaul on just about anything, given i can find a diagram on how to tear it down.

the brakes will be next after i get some cleaning out of the way. i found brake parts for about 50 dollars for a total rebuild, so not a huge deal.

i dont know what you mean by longed or short. i am guessing that you are asking about the bed, which is a longbox.

the 51/52 has the motor sitting in it currently and the suspension almost finished.

thanks

Ive had my 67 for 10 years, Its been pretty straightened away although I still have an aftermarket intake (offenhauser "C") to put on it together with the Ford 2bbl carb which should wake up my 300 inline 6 up a little bit. You can do the same with your 240. Also you can put on better exhaust manifolds on it which helps with the power for the six cyl. engines. The Ford split manifolds that came on the later Ford sixes on the fuel injected engines will bolt on and give you better power due to less restricted flow. Check your local junkyard for alot of parts for your truck.

If youre going to keep the truck you might want to consider keeping your eyes peeled for the 1967 Ford Truck Shop Manual. They got everything in it and its worth having while getting the truck straightened away. The Motor manuals has alot of good stuff too.

Yeah I was asking longBED or shortbed. Alot of times the sixes came in the shortbeds. But yeah, the trucks are reliable, cheap to work on, and keeps you on the road. I always try to keep two running vehicles on the road. Good luck with it!

Beware of the "Curse of the '67" http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... &sk=t&sd=a  But seriously, back when my daughter had her '79 Mustang with a 200ci I6 in it, I frequented these places http://fordsix.com/ and http://www.classicinlines.com/Tech.asp Lots of good information there. And these pages will point out some of the uniqueness of the '67's http://www.fordification.com/tech/67-72ID_01.htm For diagrams/schematics, go here http://www.fordification.com/tech/schematics.htm BTW... :wel: to the family. IMHO, there is no better place for info on our trucks than right here! You won't find more information or a better bunch of guys/gals anywhere else on the web.

thanks for the thoughts!

ok since it is the start of spring break i have about two days to work on the truck, on and off. with today since i didnt go to school since it was a nice day, and we were not doing anything there anyway, i decided to work on the 67. so here is what i got accomplished:

carb torn down and cleaned up, which now leaks around the acceleator pump, so a rebuild kit is in order.

winsheild washer bag cleaned out, now on to fixing the wipers.

master cylenar cleaned out, it aleast pumps fluild

tore down the drivers side front brake and found i need to turn the drums, and replace hoses and wheel cylenders.

tried to start the engine, but i dont have any spark from the looks, nor can i get much fuel from the pump, checked the filter, and primed the pump, still nothing.

cleaned out the interior, and fixed the headlight switch, which i still dont have lights....

checked the fuses, i have power to the heater, and gauges, and starter but not anywhere else it seems, so what do i do next?

ok, that is about it for the moment. i should go out and take some pictures, so mabe i will do that.

thanks

well good news, she runs!!

i got it to start today, it ran for about 2 minutes, and then i shut it down. i have a rod nocking somewhere, so a rebuild is in the future.

all the gauges work, which is good, but the reason it wouldnt run earlier, is the timeing was about 2 inches off on the dist, and the carb was way out of adjustment.

so all is well,

thanks

Find a 300 and build that, it is a MUCH more stout motor.

I had a 300 in an '85 F150 a few years ago. Tough engine, tons of torque. Not too hard to find either.
