YOM plates question

Post by kaliona »

I've been shopping around for YOM plates for my 67. They're available in pairs at swap meets, ebay, etc. But I also see TONs of them for sale but only as "one" plate. I thought in order to use them on your classic vehicle, they had to be in pairs. Am I missing something here? Why would someone purchase just the one plate? FYI, I'm talking about the California black and yellow plates.

Some people collect them, just like baseball cards or old beer cans. That might be what happened to the matching pairs over the years. In AZ we only have to run one plate, so it works out ok lol

Yeah in cali you need a matching set. You also need the correct series plate with the YOM registration sticker. So the black and yellow plates started in what 1963? SO, you would need a matching dmv cleared, black and yellow plates with a 1967 CA registration sticker for the dmv to let you use them. I went through all of this with a 56 vw I put yom plates on. luckily 56 was the first year of the plate series so I didnt need the metal tab for the year reg.
