There is a customer that comes up to the feed mill about every two weeks or so. He drives what looks like a 1987 Ford F500, 600 or 700?
Friday I was helping unload 6 tons of sunflower seed out of the truck and had to move it. I climbed in the cab and promptly thought "where is the clutch pedal"? This big old diesel truck is a automatic.
Im wondering, what engine is most likely in it? What transmission would be beastly enough to hold up in a medium duty truck? It has air breaks too btw.
with little info. to go on I would guess that it had an international engine like a DT444 (medium duty version of the 7.3), DT 466 (inline six), or a 3208 (V-8) cat. The 3208 Cat motors are not that great of a motor. Usually any of those kind of motors are backed up by an Allison transmission in medium duty applications. I think the Allison 1000 is an extremely common 5spd used in tons of trucks like you describe. I have seen tons of Allison transmissions used in firefigthing equipment over the years. They are very tough.
