71 Ranger Dis-assembly Questions

Post by dhenderlong »

Hey,
My truck is a 71 f100 Ranger.
How does one take off the headlight switch on the dash. I got the rest of the dash switches off, but i'm not sure how to remove the nob on this one...
How does the front and back windshield come out?
Any trick on the raingard chrome trim (along with the chrome trim around the front windshield)?
Thanks.

There's a button on the metal flat side of the switch (the part behind the dash) you have to push to let the knob come out. This thread has a good pic of it: http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 8ebc7dd6aa

If you are trying to save a good windshield with rubber that has hardened over the years, it is best to just cut the rubber around the edge and replace it with a new one. If the rubber is reasonably soft, use two flat blade screwdrivers to start at the top over the mirror, and work the lip of the rubber down under the body flange. Try to work the rubber under the flange without too much pressure on the glass. Get all the rubber lip under the flange across the top and both sides before trying to push out the windshield. If you have the stainless trim on the outside, remove them first by gently prying them out of the groove. The big thing is to take your time, and do not try pushing without having someone on the outside to help catch the loose windshield. I have removed several this way without damage, but you can't hurry or you will see lines appear in the glass - cracks. The rear glass is done the same way, but is more forgiving as it is tempered glass. Again, have someone to catch the removing window. "Good luck" Mike.
