My next mod. Example: My next mod is to replace the pig with a Lincoln unit that has Traction Loc & 3.55 gears. Before I do that I want the intake on & the window that quit working back working again. So the thought of being able to do the rear gears is what motivates me to finish what I have on the table now. Every time I finish something I always have something else I want to do so it is a never ending process until the truck is finished.

fall winter and spring! I cant get any thing done when I am sweating with a fan right on me. I love winter as I can control the temperature in the shop and seem to get a lot done. All my engine swaps have been during the winter months!

It is hard to explain my motivation. I really enjoy having fixed something myself. I have no plans to restore my truck, but I have lots of plans for upgrades and modifications. Each thing I do makes it more reliable or fun to drive. This last spring it was a 460 and a rebuilt C-6, which broke the budget, but it is great to drive and I get lots of satisfaction out of having done it myself. My pending projects are a better grille that I just purchased and redoing the interior. I want it to be quieter and to look nicer, especially the dash. So when I have a block of time and the money for parts I do a project.

motivation
- getting started: i eventually get tired of stuff not working as it should (if at all) or looking like a sack of crap and HAVE to do something about it
.....that and years and years of hotrod and carcraft mags & dreaming of having the coolest and fastest ride on the planet

-while i'm working on it and stuffs not going as well as i'd like it too and i'm about to throw a some gas and a match @ it : i put on some master of puppets era metallica and then suddenly i'm a teenager again having fun trying to make a hotrod out of my old beater truck
- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood, some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox, behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame, rear end, rear springs, and rear bumper...

The next thing is what motivates me to complete the current thing. I'm dying to get my engine finished and set. Before I have those done, I need the radiator support set and a radiator. To start and keep the engine loose I need to be able to start it and run it. To do that I want to have the cab and inner fenders set to hold a battery, solenoid, etc, so they need to be ready. Before I set the cab I need to have the brake lines run and the transmission rebuilt and painted. And so on and on and on and on .... Hope to prime the cab in the next couple of weeks and then start on the inner fenders and rad support. Then I'll run the brake lines while I'm waiting on paint to dry. Cruise ins are also a great motivator and the Project Updates page is a great inspiration.

Necessity mostly. I bought mine realizing I would never get my investment back any other way than just driving it and enjoying owning it. So when something needs fixed I dont have much choice but fix it myself. Otherwise we are short a vehicle and with four used ones you would be surprised how often three out of four are on the wounded list. Of course my old flatbed is the oldest in the collection and gets a lot more time and effort and money spent on it. Now after 8 years of work its finally getting driven a lot more.

I like to get on this site and see what other people are doing. That helps me to get going on my trucks. I need to replace the steering linkage on my F350 and I have the parts but it has been too hot to do anything. I think I may be able to do it Monday because it is supposed to be cooler then.

:yt: The weather is a big one!

There are several other motivators for me. One of the biggest would have to be the rare occasion that I have a little extra money to spend on it. Having spare time is a big one too. Realizing that I'm closer to the end of the project and remembering how far I have come since the start gets me excited and keeps me going. Sometimes things just don't quite go right and we need a few days away from the project, which is ok. Having time off to get re-focused on the project helps to make better end-results!

:D Knowing my truck pretty well, I keep a priority list going of things that need to be done, with what being most important at the time being the first to get done on the list. Then I research parts with availability, quality and price comparisons from as many sources as possible. Once money has cleared the way for an actual order, then the excitement builds as I wait patiently for arrival. By then I'm pretty stoked about seeing how everything is going to work out, and at this point motivation is a non-issue for me. When things don't go as first thought, and a "plan B" is required, this can change everything real fast, this is when I have to get tough, suck it up, come up with a remedy, implement it, and move on. Once a feat is completed I have the satisfaction that follows with having done something right and enjoy that part of my truck that I no longer have to worry about.

I have ADD so I'm always motivated to work on something. Sometimes it's hard to steer that motivation to the truck, especially if I'm at a point where morale is suffering
