U Haul fail

Post by kf7mjf »

So, I have to tow my 67 ranger home, and am getting help from a friend with a 98 f150 crew cab with a 7700 pound tow package. U haul refused to rent a car hauler because they said his truck was too light for the job!

So I'm buying a harbor freight tow bar and calling it good. Screw U haul.

I've always found that it's easier to lie to them about what I'm doing with their trailers.

Lol yeah, I was going to, and then found a tow bar for $6 than renting a trailer and have someone who will buy it when I'm done. Their loss.

Worked for me. My stepson's Z71 threw a driveshaft south of Atlanta. A friend of mine offered to go get it with his F150 4x4 LWB with a towing package but U-haul wouldn't rent us a trailer for the same reason. I asked 'em what would it take to haul the Z71 on their trailer and they told me at least an F250. I said "did I say F150? I meant F250. Let's fill out the lease and I'll be back around 7pm to pick it up (after they closed). Brought it back same night about midnight and went back the next morning to close out

Seems every couple of years they update thier system to register anything 10+ years old to light to pull itself down the road.

And they firmly beleive an f100 or the other two's 1500's only capable of hualing a small gardenning trailer.

I've been through this a few times. Even though that F150 will out tow most older F250's they still see it as a half ton because thats what their insurance company tells them.

Interesting, I crunched the numbers again, only with a 2003 F150, instead of a 1998 and magically it worked. Something fishy here with Uhaul.

they just want to rent you a truck and a trailer is all. They wouldn't rent me a tow dolly to pull behind my 71 F100 or 93 F150 once. I also gave p with them

I agree there is a local company here that builds trailers and they also rent them they are very easy to deal with
but one way rentals are not an option.

Yeah.. Every time I need a tow dolly from U-haul I tell them I'm hauling a 1967 VW Beetle. I haven't used them in quite a while since I got my upgraded AAA membership. It covers my wife and myself and we get up to 8, 100 mile tows per year.
