west coast mirror mounting hardware source?

Post by Kurt Combs »

Anyone know of a good source for all the mounting nuts and bolts for west coast mirrors? My junior size oem mirrors are in good shape, but the nuts and bolts are rusty and I would like to replace them.

I bought a 50 pack of each type of bolt and nut, just need to take the time to mill the heads of the regular bolts to look like the 'T' bolts.

if your looking for chromed acorn nuts and the standard bolt used for5 the jr's ace has those though for the price per being 1.25 when i bought mine you only get 3-4 years before they look as nasty as the ones you have now.

so may just try ace or any bolt and nut place you have close enough to you. also some of Homer Depot and Lowes bolts work from time to time.

I think the originals are stainless steel, but I am not sure. I would not use chrome for that reason, in a few years they would rust. I will look at the hardware later today when I am out in the shop, but I didn't think the hardware was standard hardware store stuff, if it is I will order them from the boltdepot.com and be done with it. they are one of those things that make the truck look old and tired, and new ones will just be unnoticed and cool.

I used all stainless hardware from a local hardware store. I probably spent $75 to replace everything, but it does look nice.

Thanks for the input Steve, I will have to get that order in so I can improve the look of the truck. I definitely notice the rusty nuts and bolts.

Kurt i redone mine and bought all the stainless at HD, they have a very good selection in stock. If you want some stainless T-bolts you can go by a Sterling/Ford truck dealership and order some from a 90s L models, Or if you knew where a big truck junk yard you could get a set from there.

Kurt, I did the same thing as Steve did above. I also added stainless nylon insert nuts which prevent having to go back and re tighten the mirrors as often. Like Steve said also, I bet I spent upwards of the same amount to do it all in stainless. But no more rust running down the side of the doors.
Now if I can just get all the rust off the doors themselves, I'll be doing ok... :P
