What is this found on a dash voltage regulater.

that looks like the electric "choke" that is attached to the instrument panel voltage regulator (IPVR). The newer ones, 70-72 I think, have the 9V battery style connections on them.

What does it do?I installed a new regulator and my gauges would only work without it.

Poking around online with the part number, it seems to be a Radio Resistor Suppressor Choke. Used to suppress electrical noises from the engine to the stereo. Don't know why they were put there instead of near the radio wiring, but they seem to have been more common in vehicles with AM radios rather then the AM/FM.

They were probably put where they were because that was the noisiest part of the wiring as far as the AM radio was concerned.

it's that resistor that goes behind the inst. cluster. i've blown so many of them but i dont know why. i've tried to find a short somewhere but failed.
