1999 f150 odometer problem

Post by caseyj10 »

my friend is looking at a 1999 f150 4x4 5.4. it runs good but the people that have it have fuses missing and the light panel removed so for some reason the ododmeter does not show. what makes it not show the fuseor the light panel? he claims it has 130k but we want to make sure that checks out.

Check fuse 2 in the fuse block inside the vehicle. thats one of the fuses that goes directly to the IC, but if its blown, your IC wont work at all, i believe. you may have a problem with the insturment cluster itself. i dont think theres a fuse that directly controls the odometer portion of the cluster.

Is there any way to verify the mileage without the odometer? Would a carfax report give us an idea on the mileage? It has
A salvaged title do I wonder is that would mess with the carfax?

find a new IC and plug it in, maybe. ill have to ask on of the older electrical guys at work about that and get back to you. i think thats old enough that the milage may be stored in the pcm, and not the IC. if it is, then plugging in a new cluster, or junkyard one, would display accurate milage. on the newer vehicles, the IC is a seperate module from the pcm, and doesnt have the same programming or information in it. you can look at car fax, but that only works if it (the milage) has been accurately reported to carfax before.

ok. it is possible to go to a dealership and they can hook up the ford scan tool (IDS) and get the milage for you. the milage is contained in the IC. if you were closer, id do it for you, as i have an IDS.

It doesn't matter much now. He bought it so whatever mileage it has he will have to live with. I read online that that 97-04 model had a cold solder problem in the back of the cluster. I think we will try resoldering it and see if that will fix it.
