I got my Flareside 10+ years ago because that was the body style I wanted; shortbed and Flareside box. It has been a pleasure to work on and drive. Its an easy truck to restore without the double walls in the back. Wooden bed with a tailgate that drops down with chains. You can park it easily in the city traffic we are stuck with nowadays. It handles ok.

Sometimes I feel a little like Im driving a novelty truck or an antique or something with the attention it sometimes gets, but theres still plenty of "bumps" and "dents" up here. Alot of people are waking up to the benefits of driving an old Ford truck.
Its got to be economical at this point because its so easy to repair yourself.

Every time I use it, long distance or local, I get comments and compliments on a stupid Ford Flareside. 300 six. Its the type of truck alot of guys would like to have because of its simplicity and its American Made. You can park it and leave the windows down cause its unlikely anybody is going to mess with it.

So go find those Flaresides that are still out there and restore them, rustproof them, drive em and enjoy the ride. Dont look for the luxury ride and dont rush. They'll get you where you need to go, and they are not a Honda!

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the flaresides too. I just think they look cool! I thought that about my truck too..."Nobody'd steal this ugly hunk of junk and couldn't drive the 3OTT anyway". I never thought about a 50 yr old hillbilly meth head on the run from the law though. Seems my truck was just what he was looking for

I used to lived in a town with 300 people and I still locked my old beater car cause I was more worried about some idiot driving though and thinking lets take this for the motor/ demo car and my ride would be gone.....

I do agree with you on the rest though with exception that I think all bumps get that attention not just the flaresides. so long as they don't look like they have been ran though a knot hole backwards
