Ford Rat Rods

Post by 68 Ford Stepside »

I haven't seen a 67-72 Ford rat rod yet, but I expect to see one someday.

Everyone likes to call my 68 a rat rod just because its flat black. I politely tell them its just an old farm truck and walk away.

I wouldn't call this old "C" cab Ford a rat rod, however it does have a GM bed on the back.

While at a car show this year, I heard a kid, probably about six years old, ask his dad if the attached car was a rat rod. His dad said, no son, it would have to be GM powered to be a rat.

Nope, a rat rod is a vehicle purposely built to look cobbled together. The first pic is the epitome of 'Rat-Rod'. Honestly, to me it looks like crap and won't serve any function except to scream for attention.

The COE is more of a street rod, similar to 99% of our trucks. It's functional but might not looks too pretty.

That roof does look familiar, but I can't name it yet. Thanks for posting. I've been expecting it to happen eventually.

He has a build thread here somewhere, (Ddude is his username) really nice guy came to our first M & G in Florida a few years back. If I'm not mistaken he was grafting a Studebaker roof into the bump.

I almost started to say you would have the biggest rat rod I'd ever seen, but then remembered one I saw at my last car show this year. It was originally a Georgia State Prison Bus. See Attached

I was there the last four days. Haven't missed a show since it started except for the hurricane year. The T-Shirts get higher each year. $22.00 this year. :)

There are a few that have been made, but these are a little nicer customs and not really in the rat rod category.

I think this one started out as a 68 F100:
Image

I know there are a few others that are posted around in these forums. I just don't remember where.

Of course, there is my dream to make a rat rod out of a crew cab someday. If my truck ever gets totaled with the cab still usable, then I will create this. Or if I ever find a crew cab that is headed for the crusher where the rest of the truck is not usable, I will try and rescue the cab for this creation. But the crew cabs are so rare, that chances are I will never make it. Anyway, here is the mock up of what I want to do someday (only there will be a Ford motor in it...):
Image

Or hell, maybe I will make it someday with 2 regular cabs, since this is how the crews were made anyway. The roof would be the hardest part in that creation, but the rest could easily be done using 2 cabs.
