May have to sell the bump

Post by wildcard »

I'm looking at getting an 85 SWB F150. The wife says one will have to go since we already have a spare vehicle. And she can't drive the bump.
But I can get the 85 for less than it would cost to fix up the 71. The mechanic that told me about it says they put the motor ( 300 I6 out of the crate ) in it 2 years ago and he knew it didn't have maybe 5000 miles on when it was parked. He is willing to go with me to get it started. Says it needs a battery and a doughnut gasket. Has been started a few times in the last 2 years. He went over and turned the motor with the fan today. Has a cracked dash pad and a crack in the windshield. Body is good with a tiny amount of rust in one cab corner. My only real concern is the bed is full of junk and leaves. I didn't think to look at it from the bottom.
The thing is, he only wants $400 for it. The tires and rims are worth more than that.
So I'll let you guys know what happens.

OK, took a hot battery, a can of gas, a bottle of B-12 spray and the mechanic who told me about it back over there. Splashed a spoonful of gas in the carb and it started right up. He kept spraying the B-12 in to clean the carb. I moved it around in the yard and everything seems good. Brakes need bleeding but work pretty good as is. And the windshield has a bigger crack than I noticed first time. But it's mostly on the passenger side.
But the engine runs smooth and no rattles of any kind. Even the exhaust leak isn't any louder than mine with duals and glass packs. You can lay a quarter on the valve cover and it won't vibrate off. Oh, and the left signal doesn't work.
Other than that it's a decent truck for $400. So I'm taking the money to him tomorrow and driving it home. But, as long as I'm fixing the little things, I have to keep my bump.

Just price the bump to high! Than explain that you don't understand why it isn't selling!
