Another bump, Strong Bad IV?

Post by occupant »

Found a whole truck for sale on the auto parts section of the Wichita Falls CL. Got one good picture so far out of the seller...

Image

Truck is a '68, but I don't think it's actually an Explorer because it doesn't have the bright trim on the bumpers or grille, or the side moldings. 302/3-on-the-tree, was running 7 months ago and driven to where it sits, cranks but won't start now (no spark) and I bet it just needs points/condenser (or a Duraspark swap :D ) or it has ate up wiring from mice or something. In either case an easy fix and I actually have a garage, tools, and time to work on the poor thing so I'm kinda excited to try.

I can't get a price out of the girl selling it. She says it was her daughter's truck and she stopped driving it when she went to college and it's been sitting. She doesn't want to fix it and she doesn't want to sell it, but it can't sit around any longer.

She won't sell the El Camino. Darn. I'll be heading up to Cashion to check it out tomorrow or Sunday. I figure I can get a running truck for $800, $900, or $1000 in/around Fort Worth. Two of them look better than this one and one looks worse. For non-running condition I figure it's worth about $300-$400. It does seem to have more rust than a typical Texas truck but I bet it's due to clogged drains and rodent damage. I'll have to spend about $150 to get it flatbed towed back to my house or I'll see if the brother in law will loan his race car trailer.

Looks to be a '68 from the cab forward, less the hood. Has the 70 & older steering wheel & the '68 side marker on the front fender. The hood is a '70+ hood due to the reflector in the hood call out. The bed is a '70+ due to the side markers & rear reflectors. The Explorer badge on the bed is a 1972 year model only badge.

I'm willing to bet the hood & bed are from a '72 & the rest is '68. If you can get it for $500 or less snag it.

Uhhh, so does she think it's going to magically turn into a new Lincoln? :hmm: $500 or less and take it.

Just discovered she has no title for the truck. Wondering if the daughter even knows it's up for sale. Wondering whose name this truck is actually in.

Pretty sure 68 has the reflector on the hood emblem. My 69 does, and it is 100% original. Pretty sure 67 is the only year without a reflector.

9t3svt, you're correct. I forget Ford went to the reflector in 68.

occupant, even with no title, if you can get it for cheap it would make for a good parts truck. I'm down to my last parts truck & would like another one to be honest with you. These trucks are falling off the face of the earth in S.E. Oklahoma.

I guess we're fortunate here in Georgia. A title is not required on anything over 25 years old. A bill of sale is all that's need to get it registered.

I'd probably pass unless it has something valuable. Cabs sagging, fenders have rust, doesn't run and it's been sitting long enough for the whitewalls to bleed down the tires.

Doubt it's ran since the daughter went to college in 1992 when painting the bumpers body color was popular...

The title was the biggest factor in passing on this one, but yes, it looks like it's been sitting long enough to be only good for parts even if it would fire with fresh points and condenser.

I like it. No matter if it runs or not. I'd buy it just to have sitting in my yard. Would make for a great landmark, the big orange truck...
