No fuel to engine

Post by bluef250 »

The truck has gas and the lines are open to the pump. The pump is new. Lines are open to the carb. Carb was rebuilt recently. I am thinking the problem is the cam running the pump. Any thoughts?

Prime the pump. Simplest way to use a shop vac and hook the hose up as a blower and pressurize the tank with it. Leave the carb end unhooked and push until the fuel comes out there.

If priming doesn't make it pump you can remove it and pump it by hand.
if that works make sure your "new" pump is correct . can you match it up to the old one?

I once had a pump the was used very little and then sat in a none running engine for a year or so.
When I tried to use it it didn't work, so I tried an old grubby one that sat for at least ten years and that one worked.
We figured that the new one sat with tension and the diaphragm failed. :hmm:

Run the line from the pump to an empty can or jar. Crank the engine. Any fuel coming out? If not, look for a clogged line from tank to pump. If so, then it's upstream.

Could also be a torn diaphragm, although if the pump is new, it's doubtful.

I recently had condensation in my oil. It starved the pump of oil, and didn't allow it to pump. Ended up being a PCV valve problem. Fixed the problem, condensation went away, pump worked. Check for water in your oil.
